Hmm, but if we all have to live life so Percy Pervo can control his urges, wouldn't it be best if all females wore clothes that totally covered them?

Oh - hang on - they do that in some countries don't they :-|

But they might as well have warm legs at the same time.

I sometimes see quite young teenaged girls dressed far more provocatively than they perhaps realize and wonder if they really understand the messages they are giving.

I am sure the pervert would rather not be one, it is a hand that was dealt him in life and I don't suppose he really wants to live with the consequences when he does lose control of his unfortunate urges (hands up who can resist their own urge to eat cheese or chocolate with ease).

There are people who have thee urges, nothing you can do to stop them being about. Just as you would not, by choice, walk near a motorway, why put yourself in danger of some sort of molestation just because you can.

If Percy Pervo is doing his best to control his urges the better to keep everybody safe why make it harder for him?

I agree, Sharron, they are responsible for their own safety whilst waiting for the bus, but making their skirts shorter is hardly a 'come on' is it? It would make little difference to a predator.

Much better (IMO) for them to know what he looks like, to tell their parents if he 'lurks' about, and the police informed if it becomes a regular occurrence.

A lot of ours have instead decided to wear extra long skirts, down below mid-calf.

It does look funny when you see four of them walking together three in long skirts and one in a really short one and they are all going to the same school.

Skirts did not shorten here till after I left school.. and we couldn't either because we wore what you call a gymslip but we called a gym frock.

It could be an early lesson in taking responsibility for their own safety.

Later, when they start drinking, as they surely will, they will ultimately be responsible for their own behaviour when there are predators about.

We wore gymslips for year 7 & 8 -but after that, I did, even though I probably didn't have the legs for it. However, as soon as I walked through the school gate, the skirt was 'proper' length
I also know my daughters did it, it seems a 'normal' things for girls to do.

There is, however a serious side to my question.
My 12 year old grand daughter and a few other girls - strangely no boys- from the village have to be taken to the next village to wait for the bus to school. Whilst there, they roll their skirts up to make them shorter.

Now, there's a middle aged man, who has been identified as an ex-offender, guilty of under-age sex, just released and moved back in to the next village.
One of the mothers' decided the girls ought to be told to 'behave' themselves, and not roll their skirts over. (ie they're being provocative) as this man may be about.

My daughter insists the girls' shouldn't have to 'behave' - they're doing nothing wrong, the police should be told if the ex offender is seen near them or looking at them.
She further argues that if girls as young as 12 have to act in a certain way, because of the perversions of this man, and a few others, society has gone terribly wrong, and, no matter what a child wears/looks like etc, they should be free from the threat of abuse from anyone, not live their lives 'just in case'. Otherwise the perverts have won.

What do you think?

I did that but only when I was older as for the first few years at senior school we had to wear a sort of pinafore dress with a cross over front. I got told off once for wearing one of those elastic belts, do you remember them with the metal clasps that interlocked?

Our head of the girls was very strict and would often have petticoat inspection after assembly to make sure we weren't wearing stiffened petticoats and even knicker inspection to be sure we were wearing the regulation midgrey ones.

For P.E. we had dark green short wrap over skirts with pleats round them and a plain wrap over part. We had to wear dark green knickers underneath. White Aertex short sleeved shirts, sweatshirts for hockey etc but boy were our legs cold in winter out on that field, it was wide open to the elements and the main road! It was also directly opposite our house so Mum could look out of the bedroom window and see us all shivering away.

Some girls shortened their gym slips by using a circle of elastic! They wore larger than normal school jumpers over the top, to disguise the bulge.

That "fashion" lasted about a week, then the teachers confiscated the elastic. :-D :-D

For "sports", we had to wear a short gym slip, with a shirt and a tie, long socks and baggy bloomers! No wonder most of us hated sport.

Gymslip for me too....... horrible itchy navy thing with big box pleats.

We had teachers who would make us kneel, then measure the gap between the ground and the gymslip!

In summer we had to wear a blue/white check dress.

How many of you turned the waistband of your school skirt over, to make it shorter?
