Thanks for the clip OFTG. :-D HMS Illustrious is a wonderful looking aircraft carrier and I'm proud to say she was built at Swan Hunters in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear.

She could be easily seen at the bottom of the streets and dwarfing the houses.

Joan - well done to your youngest daughter, something I would never have attempted, if the truth be known, I was scared enough going up and down in a cradle - petrified actually.

OFITG......

Aye right! lol.

A couple of years ago our youngest daughter absailed down the Forth Rail bridge for charity, it was a first for her & she loved it.

Amokavid - now if I still worked for the company that supplied and erected the cradles that were used for painting the Forth Rail Bridge, I could have taken you up in one :-D

I hate going over any bridges that have water flowing under them, they scare me rigid!
So whenever I have had to go over either the Forth road & the Forth railwy bridges I slink down in my seat so as not to see out!
The Tay Railway bridge is horrendous for me!

I have to run (in a fashion) along the kerb) over the wee road bridge that goes over the stream near the village.
Bridges over water, scary!

I have been told that "witches" don't like going over water!!!!!

We visnited it in May whilst on holiday in Edinburgh.

I thought it was amazing and took some fantastic photos when we went on a boat trip out to the Island.

I couldn't get over how close some of the houses are to the main supports and what a great view some of them have.

GlasgowLass :-D :-D :-D at you were disappointed the train went straight through and not up and down.

Apart from crossing it by train I have also been on many parts of the bridge, the company I worked for in Edinburgh, supplied and erected the cradles that were used for painting it - quite scary experience.

Great pic James.
As a child, I can remember the first time that I saw a train go over it.. and what a disappointment!
The train went straight through and not up and down! :-( :-(

I was born in Rosyth and lived there on and off for about 35 years and have fond memories of the Forth Rail Bridge. I travelled over it every week day for nearly 8 years when I first worked in Edinburgh, this is a spectacular view of it.

HMS Illustrious arriving in Fife ahead of the naming ceremony of the HMS Queen Elizabeth which will be the Royal Navy's new aircraft carrier.

The photo in the link is of HMS Illustrious sailing under the Forth Rail Bridge on Tuesday night on its way to Rosyth Naval Dockyard.
