You try to buy any drinks here that are either Zero or low sugar and you will not find any without Aspatame.

It is a vile substance. It is thought to be the source/trigger of Michael J Fox's illness as he was a big Coke drinker.

As as for Sugar - the amount in any drinks or food, along with Salt is criminal.

We never put salt in or on any foods now, except Chips!

And when you watch these TV shows and some poncy chef says that a dish does not have enough salt in it, he is talking out of his behind. Our food is very tasty and contains no Salt.

My mother used to have 3 sugars in her tea. I am not a tea or coffee drinker, but she loved my tea. And I only put in 1 1/2 and she never noticed the difference!

I hate this stuff, it goes under other names I think, seems it is in a lot of sweeteners and sugar substitutes. I avoid it like the plague and like you, Tecwyn, don't know why it is not banned here.

I am sure it's what caused or exacerbated the fibromyalgia I now suffer with, from when I used to drink one of those litre bottles of fruit flavoured fizzy water from the supermarkets.

What upsets me most is the fact that it is in a lot of squashes and such which are given to children as they are labelled No added Sugar! it's criminal and could well have something to do with all the adhd sort of problems children have now.

I tell people in the supermarkets if I see them going for a diet drink that contains it and many do buy something different. It's really tiresome having to read those labels tho, I buy hi-juice type squashes as a few don't contain it, I would rather have sugar in the drinks and use them sparingly.

Thankyou Ann

OH buys cheap soft drinks, he likes them I hate them.

I told him about the sweetener, but couldn't remember the name of it. He laughed!

I'll google both names, find out if it is used in Australia.

I cannot understand why this sweetener hasn't been banned here, as I believe it is in America, and several other countries.

Amazing how many soft drinks and food manufacturers use it in their products.

Thank you Ann for pointing out the renaming.

For anyone interested apparently aspartame has been rebranded as Aminosweet so this is what you now need to look out for.
