I first met my ex the day after his mother's funeral - which was around about this time of the year. His mum and I share a birthday.
My sister & I were living in a house in Southampton, and my sister's boyfriend was my ex's best friend. Sisters boyfriend's mother had died in the May, ex had been stationed in Cyprus, so this was the first time he'd seen his best friend in over a year.

No, we never celebrated it.

Ex's only living relative in UK (he has a brother & nephew in Australia) is his aunt, who is currently very ill and not expected to live for much longer. I think it's bringing some unpleasant memories back for him, but our lovely daughters are rallying around.
We're still friends, he knows he can always pop around for a chat, but I'm keeping a low profile.

1st proper date was down to the beach during our afternoon break was April and I went paddling in the freezing water.

I remember the place and date we first met but we don't celebrate it in any way - we celebrate our wedding anniversary which was four and a half years later. :-)

Cant remember the date but I was 18 and at the local Catholic Church Hall Sunday dance

My brother was courting an Irish gal who was catholic and a nurse at the local hospital where mum was a cleaner in the nurses home. She introduced the girl and her friend to my brother and his cousin and they all went out together.
Both girls then decided nursing wasnt for them and the friend broke up with my cousin and went home to Ireland

My brothers girl moved in with us as my brother went off to do his National Service .

She got lonely and asked if I would go with her to the Sunday dance after mass as she didnt want to go on her own

Well I was tall and got fed up with smaller clodhoppers asking me to dance . I could dance but getting your feet trod on time and again and towering over blokes made me feel very self conscious.

Was sitting down minding my own and feeling very out of it when this guy loomed above me and asked me to dance. I took in his height immediately and thought OK so we took off . was a quickstep and boy could he dance , was a pleasure to be lead around the dance floor and not get my feet trod upon . Was me who sometimes lost it.

After the dance and he took me back to my seat my brothers girl said saw you dancing who was he?? I had to say whoops I dont know cos i was so shy I didnt really look at him but he was a good dancer.

Later in the evening when the dance closed it was a sultry evening and walking home a dry storm with lightening started. we walked home as fast as we could not knowing that OH followed us as he wondered where I lived , it was on his way home anyway .

He followed us to the top of my road and saw us go into my house .

He lived just off the same road just a little bit further up

We met up again some weeks later at the same sunday dance and from then on where a couple. this was 1955 and we married in 1957

My brother and his Irish girl friend broke up way before OH and i started dating

SO meeting hubby was meant to be and the girl friend was the way it was meant . she wasnt for bro but OH was meant for me !!

remember the date precisely - 8th April 1956 - his 21st birthday and we knew when we met that "that was it" - we married in 1959 following his demob from National Service and were together until his untimely death in 2002 - happy happy days - I often pass the place where on the 9th April we met on our first date - he was leaning on the school wall waiting for me and I see him there every time I pass that wall <3 <3

Do you celebrate the anniversary of that day, ...recall it but do nothing or forget when it was?
