It is not just nurses and doctors from other countries who need to be able to speak English - when I was in hospital to have my carotid artery unblocked, my consultant, his registrar, and three junior doctors stood at the side of my bed discussing my operation that was scheduled for the next day, they were all British born and bred - never heard so much double dutch in my life :-(

Lol TZ......it will all be text speak and downhill from now on :-D

It is a pity they didn't implement that when I had numerous appointments with my son.....hardly any of the doctors understood, let alone could speak English.....Perhaps they thought they didn't need to communicate with the Patients.

Well hopefully they will pass.. I suppose if they didn't have to sit the exam then the council could be accused of discrimination against other countries whose first language isn't English.

The British nursing council requires nz nurses to sit a 3 hour English language exam before they can practise in the uk
Can't have us antipodeans coming and speaking our foreign lingo up there :-D
One nurse who sat today was amused to find that written 3 x in the paper
There would be no XTRA time granted during the test.
What a relief that it's all under control
