If my OH had been anything like my Dad, I doubt we would have got together at all :-D :-D

Well, the last time I checked my gf was still alive. So not that much alike. :-S

Yes and no.

They are/were both very caring and would do anything for family, but nether show their emotional side. Neither had/have a particularly large circle of friends, but those they had/have were life long ones. They are/were both good with their hands and both like dabbling with photography.

Dad loved the challenge of 'cold calling'; OH would cringe if he had to do that! He can appreciate 2 sides of a debate - Dad could only see his, which was 'right'. OH hates delivering a speech or presentation to a group - Dad could do it off his cuff.

Physically, there are no similarities. OH is still known as the horizontal champion as he loves snoozing in bed. Dad would be up and ready to go at first light!

My OH is very like my STEPfather who was a fantastic man whom I loved dearly. I never knew my biological father so I can't say what he was or wasn't like, which I suppose proves that girls often instinctively marry or steer clear of, the influence in their lives, Maybe nurture more than nature?

Although they got on really well and had a shared interest in cars, Himself and my Dad were nothing alike.

On the other hand my son in law is far more like Himself than his own father. Same interest in music, pretty much the same job, both like gadgets. Both from the same town.

Son in law is same build and colouring as Himself was when younger and in a recent photo they both stand in the same way.

Although my daughter moans about her Dad it looks like she has gone for the younger version.

My ex was just like my so called Mother, though I did not know that when I first married him but the worm turned, I shall say no more. Present OH is so like my Dad, caring, honest, loving and a very good friend who I can talk about anything to. Oh and of course I love him to bits <3

My dad was also a gentle, kind, hardworking man, who would do anything for his wife and family

so is my husband

My dad was a working man who left school at the age of 12 during WW1, my husband has a PhD and worked on faculty at universities from the age of 27

.............................. but they are so similar in so many ways.

My Dad was a gentle, kind, hardworking man who would help anyone.

My husband is the same.

I would never have looked at, let alone marry a rough, unkind, lazy man who wouldn't lift a finger to help anyone :-D :-D

Mine is a million miles away....... but then I went against a lot of gut feelings when I met o.h.

My daughter's father was very similar to my Dad in a lot of ways and they even spoke similarly as they weren't local to Norwich, Dad was from Buckinghamshire and the partner was from Bedfordshire. They were also similar size and build etc

Oh clever with the spelling lol You are bright for this time of day/night!

I hadn´t realised until Liz pointed out out how lucky I was to find a hubby like my Dad. (I had listed a few traits of Dads and said hubby has them also) how alike they were.
In many ways they were poles apart... OH had long hair, wore black and listened to rock. Dad thought long hair was for girls only, black was for funerals and weddings (the 2 being the same) and rock was something larger than a pebble but the music was to be banned. Dad enjoyed a glass of wine, hubby did the driving a very rare drinker. So many differences on top of them
So unalike I thought but they are not alike at all.
But when I listed Dad´s good points ..kind generous, sarcastically witty, loyal,, trustworthy, faithful, introverted, and a really mean sense of humour ...Yep hubby has all that also.

So how close is your partner to your parent ? and do you realise there is only an r between them ?
