I didn't know they have to put the price per 100g on the labels....not sure they all do!
When I'm at home in UK my nearest supermarket is Tesco who I find are dreadful at allowing the customer to do easy price comparisons.....let's take, for example, tomatoes. There will be one lot with price per kg, one lot with price per pack rather than weight, another lot at 2 for 1, another lot on Special price, etc etc. On the whole I find their pricing system VERY deceiving.
As a consequence I spend twice as long doing my shopping because I am busy checking things like Bob has mentioned with the peanuts, ie cheaper to buy 2x300g than 1x500g.

Comparisons are much easier now that they have to put the price per 100g on the labels.

Small sizes are often better value than large ones - but not always! :-S

Those times tables come in handy at times like these!!:-)
One thing I do now if I buy something that's a good bargain - take a photo of the price label on the shelf. I queried the price of something in Tesco a while back and was told they would check so I told them I had a dated/timed photo of the price label. When they sent someone to check the shelf, the person dealing with the query called after her 'the lady has got a photo of the price label'.
When she came back she had the offer label in her hand and said it was finished, but they refunded me because the price when I shopped was the offer price. Reckon she would have destroyed the offer label and told me I was mistaken without the photo.

Not pedantic, just that you've got your wits about you....gotta watch these special price 'deals' ;-) ;-) they rely on us not being able to do our sums.

You do need to be aware Maggie. Just look at some 'deals' in Supermarkets. One jumbo size for one price, but two smaller items, making up more capacity for a cheaper price.

Good job I take the abacus out with me!

:-D :-D :-D

I went to S**erdrug today, to get some ties for my hair.
I stood for quite a time in confusion.
A sign below said: £2.09.
A sign above said '2 for £4.99'.

I WAS going to buy 2, but that worked out at 81p more than buying two separately, so just picked up one packet.

At the checkout, I asked how much one packet costs (just to be sure), and explained about the sign above.

I was told if I bought 2 things that together cost more than £4.99, I'd get them for £4.99.

'Oh', I replied, 'It's ANY two ITEMS that cost more, for £4.99, not, as your sign reads, an extra charge if you buy two'.

So, rather than sell more, it discouraged me from buying the amount I initially wanted to.

This is a major chainstore. Perhaps they should pay head office admin more, and check their signage.
