Another method to catch earwigs is to put a paper bag over a stick, near the plant that they are attracted to and put something like a bit of hay in the bag. In the morning, shake earwigs out and kill them - thats the worst part.!

I have tried it several years ago, and it does work.

I make a spray with garlic (in water with a squirt of dishwashing liquid)...... it keeps most bugs off my potted plants.

I used to hate earwigs when I was a little girl, my Dad made us kids a big 'tent; in the back garden, out of hessian sacks from the brewery and old tilts from the lorries, it had a roll up front which hung down at night (not sure why) Whenever we unrolled the front piece dozens of earwigs would fall out, I used to scream the place down. And if one should run over the table where a vase of dahlias were - well you would hear me in the next street.

Horrible things I don't see any about now, not in our garden anyway unless they are hiding.

Have always planted a bulb of garlic beside a rose bush - works on aphids.

Ages ago I got an infestation of earwigs and greenfly plus. slugs and snails on the various plants growing in the rockery and raised beds at the back of of our pond .

I read somewhere garlic is a good deterrent so planted some garlic bulbs

They have given good growth for several years coming up with long green shoots .

Have just pulled em out as looking very sick now BUT. I haven't seem any signs of aphids .slugs , snails etc in the area they grew

New bulbs to go in I think as they do seem to work
