I am awaiting with eager anticipation and excitement for it all to kick off.

Yep, this Friday is the start of this year's Proms concerts with quite a few gems in store.

Highlights for me will include:

The Pet Shop Boys' tribute to Alan Turing (July 23)

Sonata in C Minor by CPE Bach (not to be confused with JS) (July 28 afternoon)

Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 23 (July 28 evening)

The Battle of the Bands (taking us back to the 30s) (August 8 evening)

Various Rachmaninov, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky (including, of course, the ubiquitous 1812 Overture) (August 18 evening)

The Budapest Festival Orchestra (performing a number of pieces and always superb) (August 25 evening)

Holst's Planets Suite (August 28 evening)

Rachmaninov's absolutely wonderful Second Symphony (not to be confused with second Piano Concerto as used in Brief Encounter which will be performed a few days later) (September 2 evening)

...and plenty more to suit all tastes, all ending of course with the Last Night on September 13.

Does anyone else have any favourites (other than the usual Last Night fare)?
