More than 1,000 dead and counting), almost a third of them children, 6,000 injured plus massive infrastructure destruction - the bloodshed, mayhem & horror continues sporadically in Gaza. |

If Hamas had not gone on and on and on firing rockets into and raiding Israel then it would not have got Gaza into its current predicament. Israel has made it clear that Hamas can have a truce any time it wants all it has to do is to stop firing rockets. Instead Hamas makes a series of absurd demands for the cease fire it so desperately needs. |

The UN is not a world government nor is it an international rescue organisation equipped with Thunderbirds and pink limos. Crucially it is not the source of international law though many people think it is. Neither does it have any jurisdiction as a court. |

The UN has probably had its day, at least in its present form. There hasn't been an effective Secretary-General since goodness knows when, and indeed, I guess if you asked around, most people you speak to probably wouldn't be able to name the current incumbent. |

Well OFTG my OH was just saying the same this morning regarding the Malaysian plane why did the UN go in right away and get the Black Box and oversee investigations. No doubt someone much clever than me will have the answer and let me know :-S |

For sometime now I have often wondered, in the world we live in today, whether - The United Nations is able to meet its obligations in Article 1 of it's charter. |
