The way I read it is that as I am already just on the Electoral register I don't have to do anything.

It seems to me that the details of the Open Register are only in the letter by way of an explanation between that and the Electoral Register.

Yesterday I received from my local council a letter informing me of the 'changes' to how we vote. Well the letter told me that I did not need to do anything.....

HOWEVER - if you do get one of these letters from your local council (you should by law be informed). Watch out.

ALL voters are now being put back on the OPEN register, and you have to contact the council to be put on just the Electoral Register.

In case you are confused by the differences to the 2.

The Electoral Register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in the Borough. Used only by the the council for election purposes.

The Open Register - This is sold by the Council and is an extract of the Electoral Register of all voters who have not elected to be removed from it. This is where the companies who post much of the junk mail get your details!

So if you were on just the Electoral Register, the changes mean that you now have to apply again to be taken out of the Open Register.
