... 50 years Ago On 31st July 1964 when his light aircraft crashed near Nashville, Tennessee, USA.
At this fateful time most folk in the UK were getting ready for bed.

I first heard of Jim in 1959 when his song ‘He’ll Have to Go” became a huge hit.
My best friend’s father loved this tune and Jim.
Not for us, however! We were 14 - and Cliff, Elvis, Marty, Ricky and Duane - among others - were our favourites way back when.
Jim Reeves was ‘far too old’ for we youngsters, regardless his lovely voice!!
Perish the thought we early teenagers should ever like Jim’s songs!

A few years later I bought many of his LPs.
‘Christmas with Jim Reeves’ is a truly lovely collection. Jim’s beautiful voice brought very great pleasure to his fans - and indeed to all who listened to his recordings.

My favourite song of Jim’s was a lovely tune called Partners, written by someone called Dill.
This song told the story ...

“Two partners went in search of gold as friendly as could be,
One was young and one was old but a gay young fool was he,
Since neither one could write his name ... they swore upon their souls,
To share the wealth and then shook hands,
The hands that dug for gold.”
The story didn’t quite work out as it lead us to believe - as I am sure you guessed - but I played it continually.
I loved it!

I wonder what Jim would make of the ‘singers’ and the ‘music scene’ today? I don’t think much of it.
RAP. Is this even music? Jus’ askin’!

I’ll just remember so fondly those talented stars that have sadly passed along in life and left their memorable mark with us so we can still enjoy some artists who really DID have talent - and a REAL singing voice.

Rest In Peace, Gentleman Jim Reeves.
We recall so well your countless and wonderful musical contributions those many years ago.
Thank YOU, Jim.

Thank YOU, Susan.

Jim truly was a very talented musician and singer.
I am so glad I 'opened my eyes' a few years later to other music.

Take care xx

I remember his songs well, so quiet and relaxing he was a firm favourite
I was in my early twenties and on a belated Honeymoon in Bushmills N Ireland when his death was announced.
At that time I was an ardent Rock & Roller but most youngsters at that time loved Ballads and Beatles etc the music scene was thriving with all kinds of new types of music such a happy time. :-D :-D
And as you say Rap ... Ughhh :-P it is not music. I think they missed the letter C off the front. I cant stand it and believe me I`ve tried to. :-D

"He'll have to go" - so nostalgic that one - around 1959 if my memory serves me correctly - a velvet voice

I was on holiday somewhere in the UK when I heard the sad news

RIP Jim <3

My mother was very much into Jim Reeves, but you can't hold that against him!

Old Tige, can't listen to it without blubbering.

The Blizzard, can't listen to it without blubbering.

Bimbo, can't listen to it without smiling, likewise Penny Candy.

I think the one I like best is called Railroad Bum.( I used to be a railroad bum living on the go.)
