Trouble is laws don't keep pace with society.
I was a bit worried that I hadn't practised with my longbow, but thankfully the Betting and Gaming Act of 1960 abolished mandatory practice.

Then again, Darwinism and the culling of the gene pool comes into play:

Okk, I'll agree with that, so ther do I find the whole thing. All I keep finding is sites that compare gun control with the Nazi's

That is just one line taken out of the whole paragraph.

And that sentence does not actually state that people can bear arms, just that they should have an effective militia who can bear arms.

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 4 Aug 2014 08:15

Ever read the second amendment :

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."

Not quite sure how that could be misunderstand. They have a right to use guns and they will even if they kill them all. How many times to schools, theatres, restaurants etc. have to be shot up before they acknowledge they have a problem.

Laws are sometimes misunderstood & therefore misapplied.

This show was first shown last week, tonights is a repeat showing.

Many Americans think they are allowed by the 2nd amendment to carry guns

But I believe they are wrong. I read somewehere that they all have either misread or misunderstood this law. But who is going to tell the NRA.

Most Americans just want to shoot any old thing. Just look at the amount of programmes now about killing animals they have.

Swamp Men comes to mind. What is entertaining about watching dumb animals shooting alligators! :-\

I watched most of last night.

The girl shooting at Barbie dolls was training for shooting competitions. At, I think, 9 years old, she seemed to have a very mature attitude. Gun safety had been drummed into her from an early age.

All of the children featured were being taught that guns were not toys. There was one little 4 year old who was being introduced to guns by her wheelchair bound ex military father. In that case she had neither the maturity, attention span nor desire which her father didn't seem to appreciate.

A family with teenage children living outside Las Vegas had an armoury. They considered shooting as a sport and took it very seriously. When they went out into the desert, they took range marshals and medical kits.
They said that the teenagers kept their guns in their rooms, the father controlled the ammo. In the next breathe they said that in a home invasion, they wouldn't hesitate to shoot. That would be a bit difficult with no ammo!

Although its alien to our culture, hunting with guns is as much a part rural US life as fishing is here. I'd rather that there was a minimum age than the US banning gun ownership altogether. Much better to have it regulated than driven underground with more guns falling into the hands of criminals.

A 200 year old law is not going to overturned over night.

No offense to any Americans on here but ...... you need to get rid of that stupid 2nd amendment, which by the way was written in 1791 (I looking it up), when guns were the only thing that protected your families. Now you are protected by the law, NOT by 4 year olds with pink and blue half-sized rifles!!!!!!

YEAH, YEAH - I know, "guns don't kill people, people kill people" but if you take the guns away people won't be killed as much!!!!!!!!!!!!

There is a programme on Channel 4 at 10 o'clock tonight about the American attitude to giving children guns.

Apparently pink rifles are being given as birthday presents to 4yr old girls.

Quote from Radio Times 'The distraught mother of 9 year old Hank, who accidentally shot himself while out hunting on his own, said, " I don't want guns banned. I just want the guns given to children to be safe." '

Words fail me!
