Oh Jude :-) :-)

How wonderful! :-)

I love your grandfather's paintings of the men leaving on Stations etc.

I find your Uncle's paintings very emotive. How long was he in the POW camp?

You must be so proud Jude :-)

Hello Jem :-)

l found this also at the IWM...l was'nt sure how long he was in prison for...

http://archive.iwm.org.uk/server/show/conArtist.1760/

l knew he was asked to draw records of the medical conditions of prisoners, especially in the operating theatre. The drawings were taken to Australia, but don't know where!
He was an amazing artist, especially his pastels of ballet dancers ;-) ;-)

Oh yeh l'm proud ;-) ;-) <3

Oh Wow Jude :-)

How brave they were.
If the drawings had been found, he may not have survived the war.

It's wonderful that his paintings were used as evidence in War Crimes Trials.

Such cruel times!

I have said before how talented they were Jude, but didn't know the facts about the war paintings. The departure and arrival paintings are so evocative. You do right to be proud. Did you ever hear any more from that lady collector?

Hello Jude since I first read about your connection to the Meninsky artists I have looked at and fell in love with their work...would love to own even a tiny painting/sketch.

Many are now held by the Australian War Memorial, State Library of Victoria and the Imperial War Museum in London. This was taken from this site.

Hello everyone :-)

Thank you Lesley for that link, l will read it properly tomorrow or Fri, off to bed now and busy busy tomorrow. It looks very interesting, There are more all over the world. There is one of my father David as a boy in Hove l believe.

AnnG....do you mean the lady from Tintern that came into the charity shop? we had tea at her house a few weeks ago, and had a couple of FB messages, unfortunately she and her mum have'nt given me anymore info on my grandfather :-( ...my favourites too ;-)

Jem...you are so right, he would have been executed, no doubt about that.
Sadly when he died in 2007 it was discovered he possibly starved to death, one or more of the carers that called with his meals left them just out of reach....!!!! :-0
Big enquiries, but l dont know the outcome!!

Nite nite
