gas charges

have you noticed the standing charge on your gas and electric
readings/bill , its gone up double since november. nearly £200. more a year on top of your bill.

Basically, standing charges are fixed costs associated with providing your energy supply such as meter reading, maintenance, etc.

If they can't their profits by raising the price of the actual gas or electricity you use, they will increase them by raising the standing charge ;-)

I pay online and read my own!!!!

A complete rip off, and all are as bad as each other.

It isn't actually on top of your bill - it is part of it.

If you look at the different tariffs that are available you will find that some have a lower, or even zero, standing charge but a higher unit charge. This can work out cheaper overall if your consumption is low.

Conversely, if your consumption is high it might be better to opt for a higher standing charge and a lower unit charge.
