My boss's favourite mantra is "If you don't know something... ask."

What an idiot.

If you don't know something, chances are you don't know that you don't know it.

So if you don't know you need to ask, why would you ask anything?

You need to know that you don't know something in order to know what to ask.

He has a go at me for not knowing something. But I need to know that I don't know it in order to know what to ask.

I don't know.

Had one just like that. And when a problem did occur that I really did not know how to solve. When he came into the office and I asked him for advice he fobbed me off.

Next day he had another manager tell me off. Because I had asked in front of the other staff, obviously he did not know the answer and I had embarassed him!!!

He was a total dick.....

"Reports that say there's -- that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things that we know that we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns, the ones we don't know we don't know".
