Yes Valerie, you are correct about genuine Market Research but a company called Consumer Lifestyles ( or something similar) always say they are doing Market Research.
I have challenged them about the terms that they use, and asked them to explain exactly what they would do with the information provided.
I have never had an answer from them.
I now say from the outset that I don't take part in telephone surveys
I never fill in any of those prize draw, questionnaire/survey things that are handed out on flights either!
The answers provided will come back to haunt you... in the form of cold callers!

Funnily enough, I was getting a lot of calls last week then I decided on a new tactic: as soon as I answer I listen carefully, and if there is a long pause followed by a distant voice shouting 'Hello Ma'am' I just press the red button without saying anything.

If it someone important they will phone me on my mobile or email me or write me a letter.

It seems to be working because the phone has stopped ringing this week. :-) :-) :-)

Glasgow Lass, I worked in Market Research for many years and if it is a genuine Market Research company they are not allowed, under the Market Research Society Code of Conduct, to pass your details on to a third party.

I'm also fed up with charities 'phoning us. Charities are not covered by the Do Not Call listings.

If we gave to everyone who asked, we'd need charity!

WE decide which charities we donate to, I refuse to be bullied by a stranger on the telephone (they often get paid a percentage of what they con you out of).... and who knows if they are genuine?

Been on the TPS list for years and imo it's a
complete waste of time...answer ..if I don't
recognise the number let it go through my
answering machine.

Some companies say they have the right to call you whether you are registered with the TPS or not.
They are allowed because they are not trying to directly sell anything.
They call it Market Research but if you answer their silly questions, they then sell on any info that you provide.
The next company has the right to call you because... you provided information

It makes a mockery of the TPS

This is not good.

They are blocking your line with these calls.

A call can only be disconnected by the caller not the callee (?)

Unplugging only stops you from having that irritating message come up.

The 'do not call' list which you are on only works for calls from within your own country, so I am on the TPS site, no cold callers from within the UK, but I still get the occassional one from outside.

If they call back and get me........ they will get an earful!!

Have you had those crazy calls saying you have Travel Dollars?

They claim to be from Jetstar and/or Woolworths........... It's well over a year since we flew anywhere, and I can't remember the last time I shopped at Woolworths!

We're on the Do Not Call list, but these people don't seem to care.

That's happened to me too, Lady Scozz. Very annoying :-|

The 'phone rang...

Me: Hello

Stranger: Please hold for an important call
(sounded like a computer-generated voice)

Me: (to myself) lots of bad words

The display showed "On Hold" !!!

I tried to hang up, but couldn't! I unplugged the 'phone.

This is getting ridiculous!

:-P
