Nice one, OFITG, glad you plan to see the doc sooner than early Sept, will mean a lot less worrying for you to know what's wrong and get it sorted out.

Keep positive and let us know - tell the doc your pals nagged you into visiting lol

Sounds like an Hiatus hernia. Really simple to operate on. And the sooner you get to the doctors the sooner they can operate.
This op can be done and you are home in a couple of days.

You have been through a truly rough time, but this is not something to ignore.

Glad you have decided to bok an appointment.

GOOD LUCK
<3

I have decided to put my devils to one side and I am now going to arrange for an appointment for the early part of next week - will post how I get on.

I agree 100% with everybody else. Worrying never does anybody any good unless you act on the worrying by going to the doc ASAP.

I will just add my twopennorth, please see your doctor sooner than the apptmt so he can see what's what. It will get you out of the house for one thing and you might see someone to chat to on the way or in the surgery, to while away a few minutes. Then you will see your doc and get your mind set at rest as to what the problem is, no point hanging on and perhaps or perhaps not mentioning it if it's gone down or away by the 2nd Sept. Apptmts aren't very long and it would be best to treat this to a separate one of it's own. Your apptmts on the 2nd can be all about your diabetes then which will help the doctor stick to his time schedule and not have to hurry the check up.

Let us know how you get on and please do something soon so we know how things are.

All the best

It may be nothing more than a pulled muscle,,,,,,,,,Yes you do have muscles in your old belly,,,,,,,,and stop poking it :-D.

If the discomfort has gone by the 2nd,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,still mention it to the doc,,,,,there wont be any charges you know for any sound advise he may offer.......... :-D

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it, Nolls from Harrogate, Margaret in Sussex, Kay????, JoyBoroAngel, supercrutch, Brenda from Wales thanks <3 I feel better now that I have aired my worries. I just needed to be re-assured about what a silly old fool I am - or should that be grumpy silly old fool :-D

I will definitely ask the doctor on 2nd September to check it out, apart from the small lump I am feeling ok, appetite good, everything else working fine - if I notice any change I will bring that appointment forward.

BrendafromWales Report 11 Aug 2014 15:27

I go along with all the advice you have been given

I am certainly not one who goes running to the docs every time you get a pain, but do think that it is better to find out what it is so it can be treated if necessary

You may find that it is fatty cells as Sue says, then you would be reassured.

OFITG

You know you are being silly don't you? Once you have made the appointment and have taken a seat in front of your GP you can move forward.

The lump could be anything from a clump of fatty cells to a hernia, the only way to find out is to see your doctor. Please make the appointment asap, you know it has to be done.

Now go and do it so you can be Mr. Grumpy again on the boards.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it, thanks, I have neither any close friends or family that I can talk this over with, very much a recluse these days. My visits to the doctors over the past 20 years, with the except of those for my flu jabs and diabetes check ups, have resulted in 3 major operations and an intensive course of radio therapy, on those occasions - I did have family and friends to support me.

JoyBoroAngel, thanks, I know that I should really get myself to the doctors and have it checked out, my next diabetes check up is on 2nd September, so I will probably ask my doctor to have a look when I go for that appointment.

As I am very much on my own these days, I posted this because if anyone else had been in this situation of being reluctant to go and see their doctor, I thought it would help to know how they overcame their worries.

Kay???? Report 11 Aug 2014 14:39

Its no good anyone telling you about experiences of their hernia,,,,they could be telling you symptoms and treatments and how they coped and you taking this infomation as a fact to your own problem, which could be un-related............Very unwise imo.

,,You say you are not going down past roads again,,,,,,no medical person at this stage has said you have to,,,,,,,,,,,,for goodness find the cause first,

I Have had 2 major ops... Heart Bypass & Whipples.... Both picked up on annual review......Both detected early... So. I know exactly where you are at with not wanting to go there again... Found & treated early makes for a more successful outcome. Please go discuss it with your doctor.......

My GP thinks ( I am sure) that I am paranoid.. But I have no intention of going there again so get everything checked & some time double checked.

As Shirley says. Best get it checked out.

well logically ignoring it and worrying what it might be isnt going to make it go away .

Getting yourself checked out and getting it sorted is the best way for you to go.

Our daughter went through six months of chemo with awful side effects and she vowed she couldnt go there again . She is having other health problems now and she is off to the doctor asap when she is worried.

I think maybe you need to give yourself a good talking too and tell yourself you have to get this checked out rather than leave things too late

You would be very "why didnt I get this checked earlier "if .god forbid, it turned out not good .

Have you got family members you can talk this over with

OneFootInTheGrave Report 11 Aug 2014 13:10

I am a 71 year old guy, and in 2004 at the age of 61, I was diagnosed with bowel cancer, I underwent an intensive course of radio therapy and for quite a long time after that, I felt as though I had been to hell and back coping with the side effects of the radio therapy, despite the treatment appearing to have been successful, I said I would never again want to go through that experience.

Recently I have discovered a small lump on my left abdomen just below the base of my rib cage, it is slightly tender if I press it, and from what I have read it could just be an epigastric hernia, that said, I am reluctant to have this checked out by my doctor, I know that I am probably worrying myself unnecessarily because of the diagnosis in 2004.

Has anyone else had this kind of hernia and were you reluctant to go and see the doctor, if so - how did you conquer your fears?
