For the last few months, via FB, my 21yr old nephew has been counting down the days to his summer holiday in Aya Napa.
His flight leaves tomorrow morning.

Yesterday, he did a bit of shopping and got his Euros.
He stopped at a retail park for some last minute items
In the few minutes he was away, the car was broken into and his gym bag was stolen
The bag contained all his money and his passport.

We can get him sorted with funds but he cannot get a new passport in time.
Everyone is hoping that the bag and his passport were dumped somewhere local but, so far ... nothing!

That's rough on him, I hope by now his passport has been found and he can get away. Did he get insurance so he can claim if he loses his holiday, I do hope so.

There are some rotten people around, I wonder if someone saw him getting the euros and followed him. They deserve to have their fingers chopped off.

Must be very upsetting for him as he was looking forward to his holiday, maybe the bag with his passport will be found timeously, if not, can the passport office not treat this as an emergency and courier a new one to him - he could try seeking help from his local MP.

GlasgowLass

GlasgowLass Report 13 Aug 2014 09:06

Sadly, the passport office cannot produce a new one in a single day.
( stolen at 4.30pm Monday)

We are hoping that it can be issued within the next day or so to allow him to join his friends and twin brother who got on the flight this morning.

We all think the the same as Sparkly and that someone was watching him.
It is more than likely that it was someone he knows or even a friend of a friend.
His social networking page is public and he has hundreds of "friends"
It was all too easy for any would-be thief.
Warning..................

Be Careful Of What You Post on FB!!

EDIT:
Good News
A new passport came through today.
He can fly out to join his twin and their friends tomorrow!

Oh Dear Again!
As nephew now has a new passport, he was booked on a flight to his holiday destination tomorrow morning.
This afternoon, this flight was cancelled by the airline company.

He has been rebooked, his flight leaves on Sunday!

And no trouble with his return flights.

What a shame things keep going wrong for him, hope he doesn't go out partying on Saturday night and misses his flight. Has he got insurance as if not I think he should get some, he seems to be going through an unlucky streak atm

What a shame, some people are so awful. Hope he'll enjoy himself out here when he gets here.

Tell him it's 33 C today and the sun is waiting for him. The sea temp is 28/29 C. :-)

Things are getting worse.......
His twin and their friend arrived in Ayia Napa on Wednesday.
On the first night of their holiday, the room was broken into.
His twin brother had most of his Euros stolen!
The hotel owner has accepted some of the blame and is providing some compensation.

They were definitely not meant to go on this holiday!

Next time maybe they should use one of those cards you put your money onto instead of having a lot of cash on them. You can get them at the travel agents. It's a sad lesson for them both but they will be much more security aware now. I hope they can get recompense from their insurance companies (always hoping they were insured properly, another thing young people don't always bother with)

Sorry to hear about all the problems but sadly it is a big bad world out there. There are lots of lessons to be learned here for all of us, but the biggest must be not to leave money or valuables anywhere were some scum bag can help himself. The trouble is that youngsters don't always appreciate the risks which is why they are often targeted.
