When I was a small child and poorly in bed, I used to beg for the radio to be brought to me. Workers' Playtime, Have A Go, Educating Archie and the Afternoon Play....all aided me in my recovery. :-D :-D

Makes me smile when someone says "don't remember that it's before my time" but they have heard of Shakespeare, Charles Dickens etc. :-(

Once saw the Navy Lark recorded on the aircraft carrier HMS. Victorious in Portsmouth.

I can remember all the shows mentioned.
What about In Town Tonight?

Tecwyn

Tecwyn Report 20 Aug 2014 21:34

Chris in Sussex Report 20 Aug 2014 21:27

The Clitheroe Kid and Round the Horne.

How they got away with 'Julian and Sandy' I will never know :-0

They were always on, along with the Navy Lark, in rotation on a Sunday between 2 and 3pm (or was it 1 and 2pm?)and we listened as a family while having Sunday lunch.

Oh the memories are flooding back:-D

Eileen apparently the answer to your first question is English comedian Ken Platt used this phrase in his radio comedy shows during the mid-1950s. But I am non the wiser as I don't remember that one. :-D
