'Spiritual' abuse is, in my amateur opinion, a cause of some unnecessary unrest in one 'mixed' family I know.

Sadly, their church hierarchy provides no logical help or advice. The local police have been cogitating about the matter for some time but urgency is not in their vocabulary.

How do you legislate for people in any form of relationship to be nice to each other and more to the point how would you enforce such a law?

There are numerous laws already on the statute books covering acts of violence, stalking, coercive, controlling behaviour, and harassment, albeit none of these refer in the wording to personal relationships nor the official definition of domestic abuse.

Maybe the Police, the Home Ofice, and the Crown Prosecution Service should be doing more to enforce the current laws?

The official definition of domestic abuse in England and Wales according to The Home Office is:-

Any incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening behaviour, violence or abuse between those aged 16 or over who are, or have been, intimate partners or family members regardless of gender or sexuality.

The behaviour in this definition includes:-

A pattern of acts of assault, threats, humiliation and intimidation or other abuse that is used to harm, punish, or frighten their victim.

Wonder if the ninety or so rapists let off with a caution under Coalition will vote for them?

The government indicated that they would be making the emotional abuse of children a criminal offense in the last Queen's speech. This did not happen.

Now they are suggesting they will make the emotional abuse of a partner a criminal offence.

Adult partners in a relationship, children, one of these groups has the vote, the other does not.
