I didn't see anything about taking the paddle ( I think that is what it is called) out so I didn't.

There is a book you can get, not the book of instructions, and the woman who wrote this suggests that you can take the paddle out once an ordinary loaf is kneaded.

Sharron, do you have to extract the kneading thingy from the loaves or puddings, or is it one of those retractable ones?

I have had to get a new bread maker because, having fallen off the worktop a few times and then being left hanging about for seven years because buying bread was one of Fred's jobs, the old one was making horrible loaves.

It has been acquired through the Morphy Richards website and has the facility to make desserts.

Of course I had to have a go at that and tried the Apple Betty recipe for tea. it does take something close on three hours to make one so I started early.

I didn't exactly have the right amount of apple available without digging in the freezer so I improvised with what was hanging about (Hanging Betty?). There were a couple of wilty eating apples, a couple of peaches that had seen better days and some plums.

it did look a bit sloppy when I looked in half way through but it was delicious. I will make it again with what I have hanging about and, next time, i might even let somebody else have a bit
