Thank you everyone for your kind thoughts and support.

TS ...I didn't realize that it is also almost 3 years for you.
I probably was busy sorting out affairs and getting ready for my 3 month stint in Australia to look after my 2 grandchildren during their long school holidays for it to register.
I think you are very brave in living abroad on your own.

Ann C you have managed well for so many years.OK.we all have our moments and life goes on.

Barry ,that was a touching little verse for your wife.We all have our memories, and it's the lovely ones we tend to remember especially as we get older.

I did go out and quite enjoyed myself yesterday, and had a little drink and raised a glass to Dan at the jazz club last night...even though mine was a J2 O as I was driving!

I did remember Deanna but didn't get round to posting on the thread for her.
I used to chat to her on here, and remember asking if she was named after Deanna Durbin...which she was.

Thanks again everyone.
Brenda xx <3

Brenda, I too remember the news of your husband's passing, and his funeral was the same day as Deanna's wasn't it?

I think you have done very well to rebuild your life without your Dan but he will always be with you and is probably very proud of the way you are going. You did so much for him and deserve to enjoy life as before, just differently.

Brenda, I truly hope you have a very lovely and happy day today.
As Gwyn beautifully writes ‘building more memories’. Lovely words!
Time indeed passes quickly upon reflection after we have lost our loved one.
AnneCardiff lost her Lawrence almost 12 years ago, and Tenerife Sun lost her love almost three years ago.
It is just two years and four months since I lost my darling Margaret after 46 years of happy marriage.
I would like to note the words I put in the Toronto Star last April.
Perhaps they seek the unknown answer so many of us ponder ...

‘Two years have passed,
Yea, still we ask
“Why were you taken from us?”
Though reason we will never learn,
Our love for you shall always burn.
XXXXX’

I e-mailed my three last weekend and started ...
“I am writing to keep you up-to-date what is happening in my small world!
I may be alone but I am not lonely, to quote Chief Inspector George Gently last week.”

As individuals we do things differently and surely we often wonder what others might think of our actions.
Perhaps we silently seek approval?
None of us has that much time on earth so we should perhaps throw caution to the wind - occasionally! - and do what makes us happy.
This is often easier said than done for many of us, and ...
... does not take away our love and what we think of our dearly departed ...
... or what they might think now, peering down upon us.

Look at the solid support and love for you here, Brenda.
I am absolutely sure your Dan would want you to go on your trip.
We all hope you have a lovely time today.
You most certainly deserve it!! xxx

It's your time now Brenda, you get out there and enjoy it.

Isn't it odd not being a carer any more? Nothing unspeakable to wash, no commode to grace your home and no help negotiating the benefits system!

Now you get your sandwiches done and off you go.

Bon voyage (that's foreign you know!)
