Last Sunday I soaked some black eyed beans and wheat berries. Through the week they have had several incarnations, hot- pot (ish), liqujidized for soup, soup as the sauce for pasta bake with crumbed bread ends on top and last night we were having them with the rest of the crumbed up bread ends and a couple of eggs and some sage as burgers when a friend brought me in some apples she had scrumped or something.

When you have eked that much it is no trouble ekeing a bit more so we sat her down with a plate of dinner as well. it would get rid of that dirty girt crumble in the fridge too.

She mentioned that it was very interesting to find liver in a burger and I am sure it would be!.

Liver is the only thing I still miss from not eating meat and I didn't detect anything like it in the left-over left-overs burgers.

It's the texture of the stuff that puts me off.

I was force-fed it when I was a kid, also kidneys, tongue, brains, tripe... all that awful offal stuff. I swore I'd never eat it when I left home, and I didn't.

I cook 99% of the meals in our house, but I leave DH in the kitchen when he makes his "slop".

I think one of the advantages of being a grown up is not having to eat turnips or crumble.

lol...... I don't like turnips, except in a pastie...... and I love crumble, especially rhubarb & apple YUM.

The best thing about being a "grown-up" is being in charge of your own kitchen :-D

And not having any turnips in it.

Unfortunately OH, Fred's mate, three wheeler man and that woman who dropped in yesterday, all love crumble so I am always having to make it but it does use up what fruit there is about.

The new breadmaker makes apple Betty which can be used be done with any fruit I have found so i can make something I like sometimes.

Depends on the crumble...... I toast oatmeal (in a saucepan) & add it to the mix. Much nicer than the ordinary crumble.

I have a memory of my mother trying to get me to eat turnips.. mashed YUCK.

It was a treat to get mashed potatoes........ but not when she added turnips to the mash........ I remember spitting it out, mum laughing and saying "I thought you wouldn't notice".... then I burst into tears, two reasons... I was mad at her for trying to fool me, and I didn't get any mashed potatoes!

Someone presumes burgers must have meat in them!!

I love offal :-D ......

but CAN tell the difference between a bean and liver!!!

I used to mash swede and potatoes for my children.
I would never make them eat turnip - it is surely the food of the devil - or cow fodder :-D :-D
