I was stung about 25 years ago and felt unwell. 2 weeks ago on holiday I was stung for the second time and had a severe reaction. Had to go to hospital and was put on a drip. I now have adrenaline pens which cost me 90 euros but need to keep one with me at all times from now on. Husband was telling next door neighbours when we got back home and they have a wasps nest on their front porch which is on our side. They are waiting for them to die off. So I am avoiding them like the plague. :-(

When my mum was a child she was playing hide and seek with her brothers and sisters it was her turn to hide and she stood in a wasps nest, she had long hair and her mother just cut all her hair off, but she was stung all over and at 91 is still scared of them.

Several years ago I was stung by a wasp, my face, arms, and legs swelled up, I had to be admitted to hospital - ever since then I have avoided wasps and bees like the plague :-(

A positive side of this tale is that there were no mice in residence because mice treat such creatures as a delicious delicacy - or so I'm told.

Sleep peacefully!

OH had to put a queen wasp outside yesterday.

If she and her children were not so hot- *rsed I would be pleased to have shared a home with them. They are very beautiful and so useful.

I love wasps but like to keep my distance.

Dermot, not a spare bedroom tax avoidance - St Cross (where this nest was found) is a very salubrious area don'cha know :-D

Probably only one of the many 'spare' bedrooms

A Hampshire pest controller said he took on "the biggest job of his career" after being called to deal with a nest of more than 5,000 wasps.

The pest controller, from Longwood Services Pest Control, said removing the 3ft (91cm) nest from a bed in Winchester was his most unusual job in 45 years.

He said it would have been "extremely dangerous" if the home owner had tried to remove it herself - he added "I just stood back in amazement."

The nest was discovered by the owner of a house in St Cross, in an unused spare room, where a small window had been left open.
