Australia's Aldi have removed Roald Dahl's 'Revolting Rhymes' from the shelves, because of the language - well one word actually!! :-0

The inevitable result when the meaning of a word has evolved. No doubt the parent could only think of the sexual use of the word.

When I was at school, a parent objected to ‘Catcher in the Rye’ being on the curriculum. There was one word they disliked. We thought it was pretty harmless.

Is it beyond the capability of the person who complained to explain the 'old fashioned' meaning of the word?
TBH, I don't remember seeing THAT word in the book - and I read it to my children on many an occasion. Maybe I was reading the book as a whole, (and enjoying it), and not word by word.

I think the word in question is 'slut' and it is one that I particularly loathe but only because it was of the words of endearment that issued from my mother's delightful mouth with great frequency when I was seven and eight.

......Yet, 20 odd years ago, the school I was working in was using a reading scheme for those finding reading hard to grasp called Fuzzbuzz. - still available.
I hated it. At the time it was about croft houses and walking haggisses - not exactly 'known' to children from the south of England.

It had spellings - fairly phonic, like them all ending in 'A T' like cat, sat etc. They appeared to 'need' so many for each ending.

When it came to 'IT', they had bit, hit, lit, nit, pit sit, and tit.
For 'UM', they had bum, gum, hum, sum, tum, yum

Not exactly what you want for a child who has difficulty reading!!!
