On another thread BillinOz said

"Stone the Crows" this got me wondering how/where these sayings originated.

Any examples?

Having a pedantic day today.

It is unlikely that you would be able to stone crows because rook on it's own is a crow and a crow in a crowd is a rook.

Stone the rooks would be more correct.

My grandfather started work on the farm at seven so he probably did his bit of bird scaring.

Crows are a real problem they attack young lambs and peck their eyes out.

There are more Bloody Crows than you can 'Poke a Stick' at Mate.

don't forget all the crows at Wagga Wagga :-D

From Wikipedia ~

The Aboriginal inhabitants of the Wagga Wagga region were the Wiradjuri people and the term "Wagga" and derivatives of that word in the Wiradjuri aboriginal language is thought to mean crow. To create the plural, the Wiradjuri repeat a word, thus 'Wagga Wagga' translates to 'the place of many crows'.

:-)

Many years ago, DH & I went to an "Australian" restaurant in Hong Kong, named "The Stoned Crow".

'Stone the Crows' was a blues-rock band formed in Glasgow in late 1969.

Not much help - is it?

Dermot I worked with a man around about that time, he said he played in their band I had never heard of them. I looked on I tube this morning and found the band, didn't recognise my ex colleague though, but it has been a long time, he probably wouldn't recognise me either. ;-)
