at long last they have been reunited with their little boy

MaryinSpain Report 3 Sep 2014 10:21

Prayers for this little boy that he gets the best treatment he needs and makes a good recovery.

I was impressed with his brother when he thanked everyone last night for their help. Not something you hear much from the ypimger generation . proves the parents have bought up the family with good manners.

The hospital in Spain where Ashya King is being treated has confirmed to ITV News that the boys parents are free to remove him from its care.

But they will first need to sign a document called an 'altar voluntaria' which clears the hospital of any medical or legal responsibility for him.

I am just so glad cps finally saw sense and dropped the charges against the parents.
Let's hope seeing his parents today will brighten little Ashya's life and the next steps can be taken to save his life.

There should be some enquiries made in case there were bullying tactics played by any consultants etc Maybe they need retraining in bedside manners.

My thoughts will be with the family as they continue their journey to help Ashya on the road to recovery, whether with proton treatment or other ways, maybe a miracle or two as well.

Good news at last..

I know that the hospital needed to report that a patient (and his family) were missing.

Also that the police had to do what they could to find out what had happened.

But after that everything seemed to get out of hand.

Thank goodness that common sense has at last prevailed.

AnnCardiff <3 thank you for starting this thread, it has not only been a very interesting and moving thread, it has also been a thread that has, on the whole, steered clear of controversy and arguments.

Let's hope and pray that little Ashya will soon get the treatment that he needs :-)

Just announced in a statement by the CPS:-

The Crown Prosecution Service says it is "taking steps" to withdraw the European Arrest Warrant against the parents of five-year-old cancer patient Ashya King.

"No further action will be taken against Mr and Mrs King and we are now in the process of communicating this decision to the Spanish Authorities so that they can be reunited with their son as soon as possible,"

AnnCardiff Report 2 Sep 2014 16:04

they should stop faffing about and meddling and get on with it - time is of the essence on so many levels

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 2 Sep 2014 15:24

supercrutch - I read that on breaking news on ITV News:-

ITV News is reporting that the Crown Prosecution Service is seeking to withdraw the arrest warrant for the parents of brain tumour patient Ashya King, a High Court judge has been told.

ITV News are also reporting that Hampshire's Chief Constable Andy Marsh has said today Ashya King "needs both medical treatment and for his parents to at his side" adding "The situation today is not right."

It may be that the High Court today will strike down the Ward of Court Order - fingers crossed that they will.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 2 Sep 2014 15:14

CPS are attempting to withdraw the EAW and the Spanish courts are trying to get the Kings released.

If that happens, great! BUT that leaves the family with the very difficult position of Ashya being a ward of court. They would have no say in his treatment if that stands.

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 2 Sep 2014 15:10

The more I read about this sad affair, the more I lean towards the view, that some consultant took the hump when Ashya's parents dared to question his/her prognosis on Ashya's chances of surviving from the tumour he was suffering from, they were not prepared to accept that prognosis and the consultant decided to do all possible to thwart the parents efforts to have Ashya treated else where - there are consultants who think they are some sort of demigod whose professional judgement should never questioned.

I say this in the light, of what Dr Michael Marsh the Medical Director at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust said, which was "It's really important that the family and the medical and nursing teams have good communication and relationships. In Ashya's case we really regret that the communication and relationship broke down to the extent that the family lost trust in the team that were caring for him."

Why is it, when things go wrong, those in authority never seem to put their hands up and say - sorry we messed up as we never intended for things to turn out as they did?

On another note - even the Prime Minister David Cameron is saying Ashya should be reunited with his parents, he knows how they must be feeling as he and his wife nursed and lost a child, he said:-

"I obviously, like everyone else in the country, want to see this poor little boy re-united with his parents.

Watching the pictures of him brought back memories of my desperately ill young boy, Ivan, and I remember him endlessly sitting on my lap and having to feed him through a tube and having to deal with all of the difficulties of having a desperately ill child, but you know, the Government must not tell the police how to act or what to do, nor can we interfere in processes in other countries.

I just hope there'll be an outbreak of common sense, a rapid outbreak of common sense, so that the family can be re-united with this young boy and the best treatment can be given to him either in the United Kingdom or elsewhere, and the Health Secretary is doing his bit to make sure we examine our own procedures here in the UK."

BrendafromWales Report 2 Sep 2014 14:41

Whether they were right or wrong it should not have gone this far.
When they spoke to the parents and knew their intentions, to deny them staying with him in hospital was unbelievable.
The poor sick little boy,in a strange place without his mother is cruel.
Surely there are circumstances where the authorities can think outside the box when there is no harm to the child.
This is also costing police time and money unnecessarily.

OneFootInTheGrave Report 2 Sep 2014 12:59

This whole affair is not only confusing, it changes by the hour, we now have Donna Jones, the leader of Portsmouth City Council, the authority "which began the legal action" after Ashya King was removed from hospital without his doctor's consent - issuing a statement urging the Crown Prosecution Service "to urgently review the case" and "remove any extradition proceedings, so the family can be reunited with their five-year-old son"

Is Donna Jones the leader of Portsmouth City Council - the council who started the legal proceedings - now saying they got it wrong :-S :-S :-S
