My dad was quite keen on another singing couple Vernon and Maryetta Midgley. I think they were quite a bit younger than Pearl Carr and Teddy Johnson so may still be singing, though they must be in their 70s now I should think. I believe they were brother and sister. They used to be regular performers on "Friday Night is Music Night" and generally sang operetta or light classics.

Of course I am far too young to remember 'Sing Little Birdie', I don't remember 'Looking high, high, high. Looking low, low, low. Wondering why, why, why, did she go,go,go' either.

I don't even remember that the singer was called Brian Johnston.

Was it the 'Billy Cotton Band Show' that they appeared in on a Saturday night. There was always a good bit of variety on Saturdays then so it could even have been tye 'Black and White Minstrel Show'.

Those names are a blast from the past.

My Mum used to love them. We used to
listen to them o the radio and at my Nan's house on a Saturday evening after the Black and White Minstrals Show (can I say that now?).

Mum used to play her records on Nan and Grandad's gramophone because we didn't have a record player at home at the time ..... the Dansette came later.

The gramophone was in a gorgeous walnut cabinate with a radio with loads of "bands" and knobs and was in the parlour with the posh 3 piece suite.

Happy Days
