Tea looked expensive

It didn't cost much, well, it couldn't, but it did look expensive.

We have plenty of marrows so I cut one in three and stuffed it with an onion and some sage from the garden mixed with the end of the bread, some pinto beans left over from the curry that fed us for two days, an egg and a green oxo with a bit of grated cheeese.

Dessert, looked too posh to be puddn'. was some blackberries and raspberries, simmered a bit, pushed through a sieve and mixed with a bit of sugar, a bit of that yogurt that hasn't half been in the fridge a long time and a sachet of jelly.

We did have a bit of cream with it but it still fed us and Fred's mate for pennies.

You really will have to write a recipe book. Probably called feed your family for pennies or something Sharron. :-D

That sounds a really interesting meal and so tasty.

As Ann says, It would be good to collect these recipes into a book, although I suspect that many of the dishes are variable depending on what needs using up / what grows locally / what has been donated.

Sharron - a way make some money, a writing career - 'Your life with Fred' - which would help a lot of other people, and something I would love to read, and 'Eking out the income' - a recipe book <3 <3 :-D

All written by the hard- hearted mean woman.

Surely cooking and feeding the family has always been about making what is available palatable.
