OneFootInTheGrave Report 4 Nov 2014 15:02

Following the resignations of Lady Butler-Sloss and Fiona Woolf, the Home Secretary Theresa May, said yesterday, in a statement to the House of Commons, that she was sorry that the inquiry into historical child abuse - has no chairperson as a result of their resignations.

Hearing that Theresa May has said she is sorry, does not surprise me, it has now reached the stage, that it has become the norm, that every time Theresa May speaks from the Dispatch Box in the House of Commons, it is to say sorry for something in an area that she is responsible for, areas such as, Border Controls, Immigration, Asylum Seekers, Passports & Visas, all these are areas where her department has failed in one way or another, failures for which she has had to say - I am sorry.

Not only do we need a new chairperson to head up the the inquiry into historical child abuse - maybe it is also time that we had a new Home Secretary, alas David Cameron won't sack her, he feels it is safer for him to keep her on his front bench - so he will only replace her if he wins the general election in 2015.

The Lord Mayor of The City of London Fiona Woolf - yesterday stepped down as the head of the government's inquiry into historic child sex abuse.

Well I suppose when the Prime Minister says someone has his full confidence you are doomed ;-)

What a shambles and why were people in the Home Office involved in the drafting of the letters Fiona Woolf wrote to the Home Secretary :-S I think The Home Secretary has a lot of questions to answer :-|

OneFootInTheGrave Report 7 Sep 2014 09:00

Here we go again - it is being reported that Fiona Woolf, Lord Mayor of London, who was appointed to replace Lady Butler-Sloss as head of the historical child sexual abuse enquiry set up by the government, has links to Leon Brittan (Baron Brittan of Spennithorne), the Home Secretary at the centre of the missing dossier about the alleged abuse which was given to him by the late Tory MP Geoffrey Dickens in 1983.

The report alleges, that not only does Fiona Woolf sit on the board of a City of London conference with Lord Brittan, but also that she has been a neighbour of Lord and Lady Brittan for the past 10 years.

If the reports are true, it beggars belief, that the Home Secretary Theresa May, appointed someone who has connections to Leon Brittan - for goodness sake what is going on, was Fiona Woolf's suitability for the role not subject to "Due Diligence" if it was, why was this not highlighted, if it was, why was she appointed to head such a sensitive enquiry?

Personally - I don't think it is just Theresa May's judgement that is called into question by this appointment - I think her position as Home Secretary is called into question.

Lord Mayor of London Fiona Woolf has replaced Lady Butler-Sloss as head of the UK government inquiry into historical child abuse.

Ms Woolf is a City lawyer and former president of the Law Society. She will head up the inquiry panel which includes child abuse experts and at least one victim of abuse.

I hope that she and her panel will leave no stone unturned!
