Of course retail prices in Scotland will go up if they vote yes. Salmond will find he has little option but to have Scottish pound not pegged to sterling. That will sink to 10% below £uk almost at once putting up import prices ( and eroding pensions ). As well as that wholesalers & retailers will have to setup and run parallel systems for vat, tax, PAYE, vehicles and so on and on. As the Scots economy has no traction at all on rUK the net effect will be a rise of 15% in prices and no offsetting pay/pensions increase. Quite a lot of specialist companies in England refuse to trade with euroland because of transaction costs. They would prob. extend the embargo to Scotland. One scenario being played out right now is that during the 18 month handover things get so far out of whack that Scotland has to cancel the whole deal. |

I understand -from what one of the retailers said-that it already costs more to supply Scotland but as it is spread across the whole UK it evens out,if it is seperated Scotland will have to pay the extra itself !! |

Maybe our current Queen has a claim, the late Queen Mother (Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon) was born on the 4th August 1900 and was a 19th generation descendant of King Robert II, the first Stewart King of Scots who was a grandson of Robert the Bruce. That makes the Queen, Bruce’s 20xg-granddaughter as a result of the marriage of Joanna the daughter of Robert II to Sir John Lyon in the 14th century. |

If there were border controls that would work both ways, there is a lot of food and produce that travels from Scotland to England - so those higher costs would be passed on to customers in England :-S |

I don't know OFITG, but would the need for border control not put at least more time on journeys into and out of Scotland, thus adding cost to the overall delivery of food stuffs both ways? |

The BBC is reporting that leading retailers which include the Kingfisher Group, John Lewis, Asda, and Marks and Spencer - are planning a joint warning of higher prices should Scotland become independent. |
