The thing I love about the internet

is how looking at one thing can lead you on to something else which you would never have thought to search for but which is an unexpected treat :-D

For instance, Budgie Rustler posted 'Jarrow Song' earlier so I went to listen to that on youtube, and was reminded of "Brother can you spare a dime" ( 1930s song) so i looked for that , Bing Crosby, but also came up as Mandy Patinkin singing it, I listened to him singing it and then saw there was an interview with him about "The Princess Bride" ( one of my favourite films) and it was a real treat to listen to him :-)

Sorry for the ramble, but is there something you have found unexpectedly by 'surfing' that you would never have thought about and/or what do you especially like about the internet?
:-D

Ha ha! I did that too, listened to several Alan Price songs then discovered he performs every second sunday of the month at the Bull in Barnes :-D

I know what you mean though and pre internet I spent many an hour reading the dictionary - usually set off by the Friday cryptic crossword in the Evening Standard.

Yes, I have done the same sort of thing myself.

Often going off on a tangent of a tangent.

Once, when trying to find out something about a sailing ship - I tangented (can't think of another suitable real word) my way to a letter written by an official in Australia in "convict" times.

The letter was to his superiors asking for money to clothe the convicts - Not because the convicts deserved to be clothed - but because it would spare the blushes of the free settlers, when the (naked or nearly naked) convicts, were taken through the streets to their work place!

This was another occassion when I was up till at least 3am! I will never be able to find my way back to the (photocopied) letter, but found it to be a document of the times. So sad and upsetting.

P.S. In this case it was not a treat. Just a real eyeopener.

Have also followed Music (youtub) links. Found all sorts of info. and some great clips.

How fortunate we are to have access to this type of technology.

Sorry Ladies :-) I got lost again lol, i backtracked to "Brother can you spare a dime" looking for a video i saw once before and then got sidetracked to black and white photos of the dustbowl and the Depression , and then to thinking how striking black and white photography was and so on.....

What I should be doing is housework!

Oh Alan Price

I can heartily recommend his album 'Oh Lucky Man'

It is fantastic.

He is a great musician and vastly underrated.

I like those houses Susan I want one, I do..... lol

Do you remember the Eatha Kitt song? "I want an old fashoined house, and an old fashioned car and an old fashioned millionaire....". I'm not greedy I'd settle for the house ;-0
