who watched, and what did you think?

I love the new Doctor. You may have noticed on FB, Rose. :-D

Guinevere I keep 'hearing' DT doing the lines though, I think it is the speed at which Peter Capaldi delivers them perhaps which is similar?

Guinevere Report 13 Sep 2014 22:46

He reminds me very much of my favourite Dr Who - Jon Pertwee.

I didn't like Matt Smith much.

I've not warmed to Clara, but then I had stopped watching quite a while before Matt Smith left, Riversong was doing my head in lol.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Sep 2014 09:50

This series seems much 'darker' than the Matt Smith one. It also seems more centred around The Doctor than saving humanity (or other species)

We'll carry on watching even though its taking time to warm to PC.

I like(d) Riversong. Mind you, it might be because Alex Kingston who played her was in ER!

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 09:53

I liked Riversong as well. The only time I couldn't watch Dr Who was when the awful Catherine Tate was in it. Very bad casting.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 14 Sep 2014 09:59

I dunno - she was certainly a change to the normal 'eye candy'. On the other hand it was refreshing for an older woman to be given the opportunity.
Its probably PC's age which is making my hesitant about the casting - who exactly are the target audience?

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 10:14

Me! I love him. The best Dr since Jon Pertwee.

Catherine Tate can't act. I kept expecting her to ask the Doctor if she was "bovvered". No problem with an older woman being cast, I like Riversong, but they really need to cast people who can act.

I am really enjoying Peter Capaldi's Doctor.

Now into the 3rd episode and he seems to be settling in very well.

I loathed Matt Smiths Doctor. To me he seem to be trying to hard to live up to and be like David Tennant and that just did not work.

I like Clara, hope they bring back Riversong.

Just wish BBC would consider bringing back the much missed Torchwood.

Watched last week and loved it. Ben Miller was a perfect foil for Peter C.

My favourite Doctor of recent years has to be David Tennant, I think he really enjoyed himself in the role.

The two worst ones in my opinion was Matt Smith and Sylvestor McCoy. No charisma at all.

John Pertwee and Tom Baker were also faves of mine at the time.

Mind you, I have been watching since dear old Willie Hartnell.

Me too.

Have recently been watching all the old ones and realised that Jon Pertwee was a rather obnoxious Doctor. Talked down to everyone and did some god awful stunts!

My old favourite was Patrick Troughton, but tops for me was David Tennant.

Ooooooh yes, DC, David Tennant!!!!!

Good episode - the best for some time.

Best doctors: Troughton, Davison, Capaldi.
Worst: Tennant.
Best companions: Zoe, Donna, Carla
Worst: Rose

I think Peter C may grow on me in time (no pun intended) - still not that big a fan of him

Loved David Tennant & Jon Pertwee - I have seen a lot of the old ones too even if I was too young to have been there at the time.

There is something about Peter C that has not gelled with me yet - it took ages for me to like Matt Smith. I did love Riversong though & hope she comes back soon.

I loved the Robin Hood episode – now that was the best one so far - really good – got a bit lost this week not sure where though. I could sit & watch Tom Riley for ever - even with blond hair - always thought of Robin as dark haired.

My favourite episode was the one with David T & Sophia Myles “The Girl in the Fireplace” Madame De Popmpadour and Versailles. I love that one - must have watched it a dozen times.

I’m sorry to say it as no doubt it will be viewed as heresy, but I think Dr Who as a series has totally lost the plot.
I have watched since I was at school and saw the first episode, it was a kid’s programme with goodies v baddies. OK terrible costumes made of plastic bags, but as a viewer you could suspend belief and enjoy it. It changed (Regenerated) into a more family base good stories and characters and some eye candy for the dads!

Over recent times it has moved from being a sci-fi adventure to a “Drama” the Doctor after centuries of travelling through time and space is unable to spot a villain and needs a slip of a girl to save him from being hoodwinked!

He is suffering all kinds of guilt and angst even questioning it the Daleks should be “Exterminated” because it conflicts with his touchy-feely tree hugging side!

The plots seem to follow the US series like Lost and Twin Peaks that jump about, it seems just to confuse the viewer so they can have a surprise ending and you wonder if they make it up as they go along until about ¾ through and then say OK now how shall we finish it?

I watched this series and kept thinking OK it’s settling in, let’s see how it goes, but 10 minutes into the last episode I just couldn’t stand it any more and deleted the recording.

Sorry must go now the Cybermen are trampling over my Veg patch again. Take my advice never buy a house that has crack in time and space at the bottom of the garden, blooming surveyor said it was just an obsolete collapsed drain ;-)

Anyone of the same mind that the budget has been cut? and that the breathy urgency in the Dr's delivery is a cover for bad scripting :-0
