OFITG,

I agree

THAT has a great deal to do with the situation today......
but those decisions were made(allegedly) by government,

NOT the man in the street.....

Just because there are 2 or 3 bad apples in the barrel you cannot blame all the other apples for that, and on the issue of the heinous murders, such as that of the aid worker David Haines, sadly the UK played it's part in creating the current situation that has led to the rise of extremist groups like IS .

The policies of the West, in particular the policy of the US and the UK, to bring about a regime change in Iraq - by toppling Saddam Hussein. This left a huge leadership vacuum at the top in Iraq - although Saddam Hussein is reputed to have been a brutal dictator - he did keep extremist groups like IS under control.

so the journalists and aid workers' families are guilty of what?

Sharron

Sharron Report 14 Sep 2014 12:07

Sadly, whatever happens, innocent people will suffer.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 12:06

But not something that's punishing innocent people.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 14 Sep 2014 12:02

well SOMETHING has to be done...........

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 11:58

Wouldn't make any difference to the fanatics, Bob.

They aren't rational human beings. And families have condemned their children who become terrorists, hardly fair to them.

Rambling Report 14 Sep 2014 11:53

Bob you can't hold a whole family responsible for the actions of one member of it,

what about the female jihadist whose family has publicly begged her to come home?

OneFootInTheGrave

OneFootInTheGrave Report 14 Sep 2014 11:52

I missed the OP post - I have never known Sharron to start a thread which would casue offence :-S

Sharron

Sharron Report 14 Sep 2014 11:52

I didn't copy it, all my own ideas, such as they are.

That was more or less it thank you, although I can't remember exactly how I put it.

I think I pointed out that there are still people suffering in Pakistan who were affected by devastating floods not very long after the 9/11 atrocity and may even still not know of that event.

They, however, are still suffering because people were none too keen to put their hands in their pockets for Muslim people in trouble.

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 14 Sep 2014 11:49

I think that if they can definitely identify the families of these Jihadists, then THEY should be taken into custody.................and held........in the tower

and please don't riposte by saying "These families are innocent"

so were the victims...

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 11:48

Seems odd that it would be reported. Don't think GR will have a problem with that.

Rambling

Rambling Report 14 Sep 2014 11:45

Guinevere, it was, perhaps Sharron copied it?

basically it was that she understood why a people would act for their cause ( eg the same way we would if Britain was invaded)
but that there is / would be "no sense" in killing people who are there to try and help your countrymen.

Sharron if that is not the gist of what you said please correct me.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 14 Sep 2014 11:43

post it again Sharron please

Sharron

Sharron Report 14 Sep 2014 11:42

It was a sort of overview and I didn't say I was in favour of anything.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 14 Sep 2014 11:38

well someone was quick off the mark

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 11:36

I didn't read it, Rose, was it about terrorists killing hostages?

Rambling

Rambling Report 14 Sep 2014 11:35

Just to say I read the post and can not see why it was reported. I was thinking about answering, but my only answer could be that there "is no sense" in killing those who are giving aid to your people.

Guinevere

Guinevere Report 14 Sep 2014 11:35
