Bob,

here in Oz I received a landline call from Telstra/Bigpond advising that my computer had a virus.

Telstra was the Federal Government telecommunications arm, although it is now privatised. It is also the largest Internet provider in Oz.

I knew right away that it was a scam, admittedly with a new angle, because both my landline and my internet connection are provided by one of Telstra's major rivals ;-)

well check next time you fill anything in with your number on it,,,,

***by ticking this box you agree that your details maybe shared with third parites,,,,,,,***

being ex-directory only means your number doesnt appear in the phonebook........ ;-)

My friend gets calls quite regularly, only problem being she has no computer and never has had lol. I don't think it matters if you are ex directory, they just work from either lists they have bought or numbers in the phone book and just change the digits.

I've had a couple, but i just tell them my son is an expert in the field and hang up :-)

that's just it Kay we(landline) is NOT in the book,

I daresay that you could dial practically any legitimate area code and a random number, and it wouldn't take long before you got a answered phone number....

I DID ask him about my virus, apparently I've had it for several weeks......
