A 39p plastic jug from the supermarket is cheaper ;-)

H'actually our Festival loving daughter has said she takes those with her - not that we've enquired too closely as to how she gets on.

Cling film and a syringe? Now you're being silly :-D

LS - probably the 3ltr container is a 'one size fits all'? Fingers crossed that the results are harmless, or that the cause is easily treated.

Persephone Report 16 Sep 2014 11:32

I was worried when I had to do the midstream in the container at the doctors and then I had to carry it out of the loo along the passage way to her room. I thought knowing me I am bound to trip and spill it. Or worse still encounter someone on the way.

We or should that be wee have five doctors at our practice all on one side of the building. One opposite the loo and then mine, the next two are opposite reception area and one is forward from that area along hallway..... I did think thank goodness I don't go to one of the three near reception.

The things one has to do sometimes... when I was in hospital every patient was given an injection in the stomach every second day to help avoid DVT Plus now you have to all wear those knee high stockings again to avoid deep vein thrombosis.. It is quite amusing to see everyone including the blokes wandering around in nighties and knee highs..... and you also have to do a rectal swab of yourself every few days to make sure you haven't got anything that can be infectious. Certainly a big improvement on days past. Also the hospital nighties have improved, you can choose to have one that ties at the back, but nearly everyone opts for one that has a buttoned down front.

yeah DET I guess it does........

I suppose a hyperdermic to recover the fluid and clingfilm over the toilet bowl is out of the equation?

there IS an item called, I think, A "She wee" allegedly some police forces issued these to WPC's for action, if they were "caught short"
saw something similar in a garden centre.......
shaped a bit like a gravy dish but with a larger collection area.......

I forgot........ I'm not allowed to eat bananas either. I haven't had any... and I usually eat at least one banana and a handful of almonds every day.

My 3 litre bottle has very little in it...... you could say a "piddly" amount :-(

Does anybody actually pee 3 litres in a day?

Maybe I should have a couple of big glasses of water.

:-D

Bob - it would work for gents, but you'd need a stead hand to decant it ;-)

empty icecream container comes to mind, rather than a household utensil

I've done a 24 hour one, and bought a cheapy plastic jug from the supermarket. That got binned pdq!

Did anyone have to do it when they were pregnant? Glass demi-johns in those days and rather embarrasing to lug on the train to the hospital ;-)

Phyll Report 16 Sep 2014 09:58

I had to do a 24 hour pee test. used a jug that I knew I could throw out after. They are not dear to replace.

Sharron Report 16 Sep 2014 08:26

I remember a nurse once telling me to use an old jug when I actually had tried to do it straight in, trying to be clever!

A gravy boat would probably be a better choice.

LadyScozz Report 16 Sep 2014 08:06

later.........

I was trying to save time :-(

They should have given me a bigger funnel :-(

I've just had to clean the bathroom floor & put clothes in the washer :-(

I hope I don't smell like an old lady :-(

lol @ Sharron..... I don't have a jug that I want to throw out! Imagine using a household jug to pee in and putting it back in the cupboard! ewwwwww

Honestly, I am not trying to be rude but it did tickle me that Sylvia gave you instruction on how to fill the bottle.

Like you would try to do it straight in to the bottle.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 16 Sep 2014 04:51

I haven't done that particular test ................ but I have been in the clinic when people have been returning their big bottle and taking away a new one

It is used to test for protein in the urine, thus checking the action of the kidnes over a longer period of time, than the "snapshot" of the little vial.

and the fact that you are not allowed to eat certain foods or take paracetamol is because they might affect the results of the test

you need to get yourself a jug or some such that you can "p" into, and then decant from that into the big container.

LadyScozz

LadyScozz Report 16 Sep 2014 04:16

He sent me to the pathologist for blood tests .........

he mentioned a urine test, and I was expecting the usual small container....

No.

I have a 3 litre bottle..... have to pee in it for 24 hours!

Take it back tomorrow, and get another one....... which will have additives :-S

Has anyone else had to do this?

And....... I'm not allowed to eat tomatoes, nuts or pineapple, or to have paracetamol.
