Our now grown grandaughter had lots of problems with them at school .she has always had long hair which is very thick . Daughter would get rid of them and hey presto some weeks later they were back again . she tried all sorts of products that were out then .

Even after she left uni at 20 she got them .trouble was she was friends with a family and still had sleepovers with one daughter who she knew had them but who seemed never to do anything about them .

When she came to live with us when she started work in London I had to say enough I dont want em here so no more staying over I,m afraid.

She did have another couple of bouts but we got rid thank goodness

I remember when nitty norah came around the school and you dreaded getting the letter given to you in class cos everyone then knew you had em

i had then twice at school and we had to go down the the cleansing station in Greenwich where your head was washed in an awful smelling shampoo and then strand by strand combed out with the nit comb

Mum had a ritual on Saturday bath and Armami night when you had the nit comb out afterwards just in case

with 7 kids at home she didn't need the aggro of them

I've just spent a fortune - and the past 10 days getting rid of them.(thank you youngest grandson)
Bought some stuff called Hedron. Put it on, let it dry, wash out in the morning. (with copious use of metal nit comb as and when) Same thing the following week. There's still some left over, so I'll be doing it this Friday 'just in case'.

Never got them when I worked in a school, as I dyed my hair (permanent dye). Now I use the wash-out stuff, and it doesn't deter them :-|

in infants school my best friend always had nits - my mother used to tell me to keep away from her, but she was my bestest friend so I couldn't

I have very curly hair so every night it was head over a newspaper while Mum went through it with one of those fine nit combs - very painful

:-D

Thanks for this uplifting subject.

Can I assume that since I am as bald as Homer Simpson, I should not worry about getting this plague?

But it’s not as bad as EBOLA - is it? :-S

The problem is those mothers like the one who was miffed.

They do think their little precious ones will never get them and therefore never treat them.

So during the school holidays parents get rid of them. Back to school and snooty mums kids come back with their little friends and before you know where you are everyone in the class, then the school is infested again.

The problem comes from these mothers thinking their children are too clean for nits, when we all know it is clean hair they love.

I remember those days so well Shirley.
We only have girls and 2 of them had thick curly hair, which made them difficult to spot especially in artificial light.
Thankfully, we can use Lyclear and our bathroom cabinet always had a bottle handy,

For my daughter's 7th birthday, she had a gaggle girls over for a party/sleepover.
The next day, I discovered that my birthday girl had an infestation.
It was quite clear that she had them before the party, and I had to phone every mother to let them know.
Most were understanding but one was a bit miffed because she found that her daughter had them too
The child must have been infested before the sleepover, but I was made to feel very guilty!

Letter came home yesterday check their hair for nits as there is a breakout with them

Daughter checked him and yep he has them !!

She isn't amused as he didn't have them when he went back to school

He is being a pain to her trying to comb his hair through with the nit comb .he complains it hurts mind you he always moans anyway

She can't use lyeclear on him so is using the conditioner comb in out method

Thank goodness he has short thin hair
