Thieving so-and-so

I have a delivery of wine every three months, with instructions to the delivery driver to leave the case round the side if I am out. This has worked well for some time, but some thieving ******** stole yesterday's delivery. So that's 100 quid down the drain! Bob (fuming and sober)

Do you not have a neighbour you can have deliveries left with?

I take in stuff for most of the street. And if I am out I know someone on the street will do the same.

I am very lucky, to have wonderful neighbours.

Did they actually deliver it?

Awww that's awful.

I had a new kitchen fitten at the start of the year and I could not believe how much booze we have in our cupboard.
I am having a girly cocktail night next month to try and use some of it up, and you can come and get smashed Bob !

Check with your supplier, some do actually replace FOC if it's stolen ;-)

Not vinegar, I can think of a better amber liquid, might take you a week or two to fill a crate though! ;-)

Refilling wine bottles made me have a memory. A few years ago my boss gave me a bottle of red wine for Christmas. I looked it up and it was very expensive. One evening I fancied a glass. Opened it and it was Ribena. Did not have the heart to tell her. Found out later that her OH was a alcoholic so I could have caused trouble.

We also have a case delivered, and like you Bob instructions given to leave in a safe place.Last week I must have just been in the back garden when the wine was delivered and several hours after coming in from the garden I discovered it on the front door step.Luckily our house is set back a fair bit from the road and it isn't a busy road but it was in clear view if anyone had looked in.
I would certainly be complaining if I were you and asking for a replacement case.

Don't they have a sign for goods policy?

It is partly my own fault, as I left instructions for it to be put down the sideway. This time we happened to be away for a couple of days and it came the day before we returned. A few years ago we took the kids to Chessington for the day and left a substantial picnic in a cold box in the boot of the car. You've guessed it, we had that nicked as well. Not so many years ago we were burgled while we were asleep in bed. They didn't get away with much as we had a dog back then and she must have disturbed them, but their "haul" included the house keys. The damage they did breaking in and the cost of replacing the locks was quite substantial, but less than the excess on my insurance. One of the joys of living in London. Someone less charitable might make a comment about Eastern European immigrants, of which there are many around here, but of course I couldn't possibly comment. Bob

An opportunist who saw them deliver or someone who knew you were away and saw them leave the goods down the sideway? Have you reported it to the Police as they might have seen someone carrying a case of wine and picked them up. Put a note in your local shop with a small reward for information, no need to give your address, just ask if anyone knows someone who had a case of wine to sell off, which is probably what they did.

Glasgowlass, thanks for the invite, but I may need a passport after tomorrow. Or are you an ex-pat? Not long ago I predicted that the vote on independence would go 60-40 against but I am not so sure now. Bob
