that Scotland has voted to stay with the United Kingdom

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 19 Sep 2014 06:46

the whole is always stronger than the parts :-)

it was also interesting to note that this is the 3rd election, in 2 different countries, that I have watched in the last 2 years where the pollsters have been proved wrong

There HAS to be something wrong with the method of polling for them to be so very wrong!

I personally was fascinated watching the weeks leading up to the voting, because it was so very similar to what we went through in Canada in 1995 when Quebec held a referendum to separate.

The voting was much closer in our case .............. the NO side won by only about 1%

It was absolutely nerve-wracking watching the results come in that night.

I woke up just as Glasgow was declaring 'Yes', which was a little worrying until I saw what had been happened whilst I had been sleeping.

Can Salmond now go, for causing much division within Scotland?

I always think that you need a definite majority to initiate change, not just 1 vote on several million.

But they can try again in a generation....

patchem

patchem Report 19 Sep 2014 07:16

Yes, a United Kingdom of Great Britain.

Quebec had 2 referenda

One in 1980, then another in 1995

The referendum is decided but 'it' is by no means over :-D

Much political wrangling will now ensue.

Let us hope that the NO vote will be good for Scotland and also good for the rest of the United Kingdom.

I'm pleased we're still united. :-D
Living quite close to the border we always like to think of ourselves as Kith and Kin.

Sterling has gone up in value, we'll be stronger in Europe and now Westminster SHOULD listen to the people more!

I don't like opinion polls :-| ...find they're seldom right and imho can sway voters.

Things got a bit daft here in Oz.

Lots of articles showing the Oz flag with a "possible new" Union flag...... all horrible.
