Maggie, you can, you can!

It is a marvellous little knife from Lakeland, a two ended job that fits into a hollow handle. Brilliant peeler one end and a perfect blade for veg the other.

It costs less than a fiver and I get through two most years, I am rarely without a knife in my hand (just as you suspected).

I grew some tomatoes for green ones this year because I am nearly out of mincemeat but I don't want that much, nor can I afford the dried fruit.

We don't use an inordinate amount of jam but Fred and his mate were such prolific fruit pickers that I had to do something with it. Now his mate has become a prolific marrow grower.

Problem is - you have the tomatoes - you need to do something with them!!

Losing a veg knife is one of life's sorrows. You can never get one exactly he same - and it takes quote a whole to 'break in' a new knife :-(

I have not been completely inert today.

My wonderful knife wore out the other day and today I have taken delivery of a new one.

It has certainly earned its keep.

As well as slicing the beans and doing the carrots for tea the new implement has cut up 11lbs of green tomatoes and sliced three lemons.

Five pounds of green tomatoes for a new batch of mincemeat and six pounds as well as the lemons for green tomato jam.

This year I was not going to make any jam at all.
