After much umming and arrrrring we had a phone call to say that Spain have now changed their laws and the way of solar panels have changed, although they don´t pay for what you put in the grid and don´t use, they now allow you credit against what you put in.
So we got the man out (not the same one as before) to explain.
He advised us to only have 8 panels not 10 (as suggested before) because what you don´t use in the evenings, over the year, you do lose it. As the man said we could always add panels should we need them. Then the chap saw our leccy bills and the size of our hot tub, he also realised that our house wasn´t as he thought a 2 bed but a 5 bed over 2 floors. <>Bless the chappy he threw the extra 2 panels in for the same price as 8. ..Yea I know the way salesmen work ´cos I used to work for a double glazing firm, but this chap was really going to price and go away :-0 :-0 :-0 :-0

OH is not slow and said how much for cash ?? :-0 :-0 :-0 it took a phone call but we have the price of 10 panels down to €5700. So much better than just short of €10,000.
So yes we have signed up for solar energy.

Watch this space to see if we regret it or applaud our choice ;-) ;-) ;-)

Thank you Von, we are hoping for them fitted in 2 wks just in time for the winter. I have a cold house with as yet no permanent heating (apart from the air-con) and a mother in law who is visiting for 6weeks this winter.
Hopefully we will be able to see the value this 1st year but I have to say that we would have reduced our winter bills anyway with just awareness.
It will be interesting to see how it works out as if everything works out right then the panels will repay themselves with-in 5 yrs and after that everything is a bonus.

Going to be interesting to see ;-)

Uzzi,
I know how cold Spanish houses can be in the winter. No insulation etc or cavity walls so I think you will find the benefit hopefully.
I know a few friends in Southern Spain who have it and they are satisfied.
Here in Wales I have a solar panel for water, not electric.
Had it about 8years and living on my own,I don't have my water heating on from April to Nov.It works with daylight...obviously hotter when the sun in shining, and this year it has been boiling hot.
In the winter I put the water on for about half an hour in the morning.
Obviously I can boost this whenever needed.
I really think in your climate it will be a good thing.also adding value to your property.
Good luck!
