When DH came home I was scrubbing the cooktop....... because I had spilled honey on it, and the honey had burned..... a sticky hard mess.

DH took the control knobs off the cooktop (I can't grip them, because of arthritis)..... and he put them in the sink! In water! Arrrrrrgh.

We're having pasta, but I'm not putting anything on to cook until the knobs are dry.

Silly man.

I'm getting hungry.... and our usual dinner time is an hour away.

We have a glass hob with no knobs you just press buttons. OH says it is very ez to clean if you spill something on it. It has some kind of sensor which stops stuff boiling over. OH uses a lot of honey ..

Although I installed the hob I have never got the hang of cooking with it so when oh not avail I depend on the sandwich maker :-(

I wasn't very successful at getting the honey off....... there are two horrible marks on the cooktop, but it didn't stink when I used the hotplate.

I'll have to get one of those plastic non-scratch scrapers.

It's an easy thing to keep clean..... until now!

I shouldn't leave the room when I'm using honey! Honey glazed carrots are off the menu for a while :-D

oh says she uses a special scraper which has a plastic handle but steel blade set at just the right angle. Ez to find most hardware stores low cost. And there I thought she had a very strong right arm. I was caught trying to clean it with steel wool and banished. For sticky knobs she says use white vinegar applied with a cloth.

I use a spray cleaner especially for sticky bits, it's based (dunno how) on oranges.

It gets sticky labels off everything, as well as cleaning. If a baby-wipe doesn't work, I reach for the orange spray :-D.... but it didn't get the burnt honey off.

You used steel wool? You're lucky she didn't use her strong right arm on you!

She did, she is French not a nation known for its Anglophone tendencies.
As she is a professional patissier she has both a strong right arm and a strong left arm. Even our enormous cat does not push his luck.

A solution of washing soda does burnt pans.

Maybe if you soaked a pad of kitchen towel or cloth in some and left it on the hob overnight it might do it.

Gumption (a paste cleaner) got most of it off.

I think I'll need lots of elbow grease.

Scozz, you could have cooked the pasta in a large container in the microwave.

I tried that once Liz, also tried rice in the microwave........ didn't like it.

It went sort of gluggy & horrible.

I have a new induction hob which doesn't have any knobs or buttons
The controls get covered in finger marks though

Grr ..I had to buy new pots and pans fot this as they must be made of magnetic materials

Its delicate and would mark if it was scrubbed!
I leave a damp cloth soaked in washing up liquid on top of any sticky marks and they just wipe off.
