I listen to 'Round the Horn' and 'You're 'Avin A Laugh' on Radio 4 extra.
I couldn't really understand them when I was young.

Oh yes, on RADIO 4!!!!!!!

I remember one of my brothers' 6 years older than me, saying when I was 10:
'Muffin the Mule isn't a criminal offence'.

It was about 15 years later before I remembered what he'd said, and laughed!!

Round the Horn - brilliant - nothing can come near it for laughs on the radio

'Words are my favourite insanity'.

And Nicholas Parsons is a 'word & speech' expert as far as I'm concerned.

Wish I could imitate his linguistic ability.

Reminds me of when I was about 17......... and repeated a joke.

I got a completely innocent meaning from the punch line...........

It was years before I understood what it really meant. VERY rude.

To this day I blush just thinking about it.

Hands up. Who used to listen to 'Round The Horn'?

Even mentioning the innuendoes in that show is an innuendo.

So very true. Our understanding of any words is based on association.

In a report in a national newspaper today, Nicholas Parsons, the long-serving host of Just A Minute, has suggested those who place a rude interpretation on an innuendo in a joke, only do so because of the first thing that enters their mind.

Speaking at a literature festival, he said: "a true innuendo is that it's completely innocent to a pure mind - but those who haven't got pure minds will hear it." :-D :-D :-D
