Purple **^*Sparkly*^** Diamond Report 20 Oct 2014 05:54

Well done for taking such a brave step Maggie, hope you can enjoy your break from work and do things you like, while preparing for a less stressful job in the New Year. No one should have to endure such stress as you and others get in their work. I am glad I didn't have such problems when in the workplace, most of the time I enjoyed my job and if I didn't like it or wanted more money, would just apply for something advertised, and most of the time get the new job, give one week's notice and away I went. Those were the days.

Thinking about it, the most stress and unpleasantness I had was in my part time job when my son was young, when I was a dinner lady. A couple of the other ladies had been there a long time and boy did they try and rule the roost. They had got into routines that were unsafe and shouldn't have been allowed, like 'encouraging' new staff to lift far too many tables at one time etc and because a lot of the little ones took to me, they seemed jealous and tried to say I shouldn't befriend them if they were nervous or shy. I got complimented by one mother who was a local tv reporter and they hated that she went to the Head and said how much I had helped her little boy adjust to his new school and got him eating his food. To this day she stops to speak with me if I see her and remembers the time her lad wouldn't eat.

Far too many bullies in the workplace.

Good luck to you and Ann as you take control of your lives and show who is really 'boss'

Ann, look to the future - you're going to retire. Think of the freedom!!
Can't you persuade your GP to sign you off sick?
Your boss sounds a right B******, he shouldn't be in a job like that.
It appears to be happening everywhere, unsuitable people managing others.

ann Report 19 Oct 2014 23:44

Maggie why I finally felt the need to retire was after I had to evict a young boy. Boss man who had never met him or had any dealings told me to evict him over many reasons we could get around. His social worker has since gone long term sick and my blood pressure on tabs was up to 197 over 101. I feel boss man has to get on with it as I need my health although boss man don't give a crap about anyone. He has so far had about 8 weeks holiday this year. I cant get many as he has filled me in as contracted 17 hrs but only work 10.Cant wait to leave. I will be jel in a month as you will leave before me xx

Kay & Sylvia -your minds!!!!!!
:-0

Got to look at him as a doctor - he's seen far too much of my muffin tops, 'unmentionable' internal organs (via scans) etc etc :-S

...but he is very sweet...

He'll be even sweeter if he gives me a sick certificate for a couple of weeks :-D

Oh, Goodness, Lavender. That is awful!

My line manager was bad - but not quite that bad.
She kept asking me for 'proof' I'd been to the doctor. I pointed out that, as I usually phone, I didn't have an appointment card.

She then asked me for permission to phone my doctor - I said okay.

Most people would assume that meant I had nothing to hide.
Not her. She tried to phone my doctor (doctor told me this) to check whether I'd really been to see him and to get the 'real' reasons for my sickness. Fortunately the receptionist was on the ball. Put her through to my GP, who pointed out that anyone could phone up and say they had permission, and he wasn't going to tell her anything - and as a manager, she should know this.

Next time I saw him, he asked if he had my permission to write a list of stress-related illnesses I had (that's the only sort of illness I have) for me to take to give her! :-D
He also gave a list of the drugs I'm now on, and pointed out in the note that I wasn't on them before the work related stress. Oh -and he gave me 2 copies.

Strangely, she lost the copy I gave her, so I gave her a copy of the one I had. :-D

My doctor is lovely. He's actually encouraged me to leave, as he's concerned about my health. Shame he's married - he's the same age as my daughter.

Good luck with everything, Maggie. Enjoy a rest while you can, too.

Many moons ago I was unable to attend a couple of classes I was teaching. I telephoned in to say I had suffered a miscarriage with complications. A considerable number of months later it was obvious they disbelieved me, and I was asked to produce a certificate from the doctor. They were most surprised to read that it was indeed the case. Pen pushers.

Ann,
Why is it the so-called 'caring' side of employment has such an uncaring attitude towards their employees?
What makes them think admin is an easy job?

Prickles, I'm getting very excited

Thank you all for your good wishes. I had been thinking about resigning for a while. The resignation letter had been sat on my computer for a good 6 months.
When mum died, at the end of 2012, we all (4 children 6 grandchildren) got a small amount.
I could have gone on an amazing holiday somewhere exotic for a week or two - but as work managed to ruin the two separate weeks I had in the UK this year, I didn't take that option, I would also have come back to the same, old, same old, and the exhaustion caused by stress would soon return.

By taking a couple of months 'rest & respite' at home I can turn my back on all the cr*p work flung at me, do a bit of genealogy, find some energy once the stress has subsided, cut down the overgrown trees and maybe sort out my spare room and re-find my dolls houses :-D

One of my brothers has suggested I sell some of my 'stuff' on e-bay

:-|

I also hope to meet up with Sharron

:-D :-D

Oh, and maybe re-decorate my kitchen. :-D

I won't be bored :-D :-D :-D :-D

Maggie I seem to work for a firm like you. Last year I went sick for a month with stress. I had to go an see the occupational doctor for the firm. I tod him about the work load I was getting from my senior and she was swanning off to who knows where I was only in the office for 10 hours a week and outside with residents for another 10. I was never with the residents. When I had my "going back to work" my manager had gave her all my paper work from the doctor for her to do it. I was flabbergasted. Then that job came to an end at the end of March and she was sent somewhere else and I was given the job for 17 hours a week and do the paper work and repairs for another scheme. Where between 2 of us we were getting 35 hours I am now only getting 17 hours and with no support. I am a supported housing assistant in a homeless project so you can imagine the crap I get and the paper work with all the tenancy's and void work. They think I am coming back as relief I don't think so. I was thinking of writing a book about the place lol
