Has anyone tried Black Sapote?

http://www.capetrib.com.au/blacksapote.htm

Someone gave us three of them last week, and they have just ripened.

I cut one open and tried it..... very bland. Mixed in a slurp of brandy and some cocoa, and it's not bad, but I wouldn't rave about it (much prefer the choc pudding made with avocado).

Not come across that one.

I always think Physallis tastes of spit.

I wouldn't go out of my way to find more of them :-(

I've now used two, mixed up with cocoa & brandy......... and that slop was part of a smoothie (long story, I'm making all sorts of concoctions to add a herbal powder to; the powder just in water tastes absolutely revolting).

The one left in the fruit bowl is still hard, but the weathr is warm, so it might be ripe in the morning :-)

If you're interested, this website has a list of all sorts of weird & wonderful tropical fruit.

I know someone who has the "ice-cream tree", and his kids love them, but I haven't sampled it.
