+++DetEcTive+++ Report 4 Nov 2014 18:56

After reading Shelley's post, my reaction was like most - annoyance, especially in this the centenary year of the WW1 war.

On the other hand, wouldn't it be better for those of us who care to buy our own poppies and put a few more coins in the tin? Nothing can bring back the dead, but we can help to make life a little easier for the living.

Sheila,
To me it is not about how early it goes up, but the fact that they have put it on one site and not the other, therefore not everyone can see it.

Also as i said previously, they are a site that promote military records, so it is not too much to ask.

I get where you are coming from, but an outward show is what people are asking for. :-) Sue

I find the answer from GR absolutely bloody disgusting..

I am not on FB and don#t want to be.

Just goes to show that GR even though it's a family history site with military records on it has NO RESPECT for our fallen heroes wether it be WW1,WW11 or the conflicts since then..

This makes me think twice about being a member of a site that has NO RESPECT. for anyone.

Tecwyn Report 4 Nov 2014 19:20

A very unfortunate decision by Genes Reunited.

Like many other members I do not do Facebook.

Blatant disrespect for this period of Remembrance, and for the membership.

Frankly, I am disgusted.

Tec.

Rambling Report 4 Nov 2014 19:22

It does seem a pity, when in previous years there HAS been a poppy, that this year in particular, when so many are commemorating the centenary of the beginning of WW1, GR did not apparently consider that its members might expect at least the same as last year, if not something more.

SheilaSomerset Report 4 Nov 2014 19:30

I really don't think it's lack of respect and am inclined towards Rollo's theory but GR are hardly going to say, 'yes we've made most of our techies redundant and can't afford to pay a contractor a few grand to make a small change and then change it back again a few days later' are they :-(

Sue Report 4 Nov 2014 19:34

Probably not, but which ever way you look at it alot of people do not like their decision.
A truthful answer would go down better, but pigs might fly.

Those pigs have been flying for a very long time Sue.

What about those of who never have, and never will go onto Facebook?

Why are we not having a Poppy in the Logo like previous years?

Totally agree Twiddley, but heyho thats GR for you.....

Lest We Forget

Island

Island Report 4 Nov 2014 20:17

Sally Report 4 Nov 2014 22:06

i think it is dsgraceful and shows no respect particually on a family history site

as many of us have lost rellies in conflicks

yes we can put a little extra in the pot

but surely gr should have planned putting a poppy on here months ago

thinking of izzy who was a member and her son Ashley and his terrible injurys and whose life we followed on here x

At the end of it all we are here because of them.......

Portrays GR badly (in my opinion)

MR_MAGOO Report 4 Nov 2014 23:16

Every one of those poppies at the Tower of London helped make the people of this country what they are today.

And the Internet was English Invention too, without that man none of us would have made the friends we have today and................no Bright Solid.

I'm on FB - but not the GR site.
I didn't realise I HAD to be.
Seems like two World Wars have had no effect on personal wish/freedom when it comes to the hierarchy who run GR.
New logo for GR:

'If you want to see a token of respect for the 100th anniversary of WWI, you MUST be on FB, because, quite frankly, we can't be A*sed to do it on two sites'.
Thanks for the money

I am not on any so called social networking site. Their attitude is disgusting.

It was drummed into me in childhood just how important it was to wear a poppy and the sacrifices it stood for.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 4 Nov 2014 23:23

No poppy,,,,

think ahead then,,,,,,,,,,,no twinkle bauble at christmas either,,,!!!

having it on facebook is of little use to those that dont use it,,,,,,,,,,why is everything centred round FB from GR,,its paying members that keep this site alive not facebook, the least that can be done is to show them there is respect from the staff to rememberance day ,,,,,,,,,also any new members may find that a site carrying military records cant be bothered to upheld the showing of a poppy.........

Has Estelle left the building aswell....... :-(

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 4 Nov 2014 23:39

As you say, Kay, we are paying members.
Some members have memories of those who served in WWI.
Show a little respect, GR. If not for those who served in WWI, but for their living relatives on GR.

Kay????

Kay???? Report 5 Nov 2014 07:29

It seems even more ironic,,,

mind FMP site is bare........

yet ancestry a US site has a banner also a poppy and has done for months to mark 100 years.
