Hello Everyone.

Copy of my letter to GR yesterday and there reply sent at 2.56 today.

To the Management of GR and not “Support Team"

To say that I’m annoyed with you GR would be mild; I’m actually b disgusted with your attitude over the absence of The Remembrance Poppy which we wear with pride.

Our Queen was advised on security issues regarding attending The Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph this morning and declined because of what the Poppy Emblem means to her and everyone else that chooses to wear one and for this act our Queen was applauded.

You GR a family history site with Military Records available for a charge of £14.95 which is an addition to my Platinum Subscription and you could not be bothered to place a Poppy on your home page.

You say that you had to require a technical release and you had no time BUT you could have told everyone instead of members finding out from Facebook which I do not use, I’m a paid up GR member and we should of all been told.

Shame on you, I’m sure that 99.9% of GR members feel the same as I do at your lack of compassion in remembering our war dead by not displaying a Poppy, it’s not just for the Fallen but also the sale of Poppies help to give injured Service Men & Women a better life.

To wind me up even more, you sent me this morning your Nov newsletter “LETS REMEMBER TOGETHER” with a beautiful banner of Poppies across the top, are you trying to cover up your decision to give Facebook a Poppy and not GR , it will not wash with me, BUT a public apology to GR members might help.

Shaun ( a very disgruntled paid up member)

Hmm.

Aren't you denying us the right to choose.

Why haven't you given us an apology/explanation on here. You have an Announcement board - why not use it!

You are denying me the right to receive information for which I have paid for - haven't I?

I've voiced my views on this disgraceful omission by the high heid yins at GR - several times :-| :-| :-|

Alas GR's Terms & Conditions do not permit me to to express what I really think by using a vocabulary I learned while spending several years on construction sites ;-)

Mealy mouthed and sanctimonious!

An honest admission that they screwed up would have gone a long way but that response just adds insult to injury.

This is the response from GR to a complaint on their FB page. (Gwawr is a Welsh name I understand).

"We've got a poppy on our logo here on Facebook and across our emails and other communications Gwawr, plus we've got people in the office wearing their poppies too, but this year we wont be having one on our logo.

You are welcome to commemorate remembrance in any way you wish, some people do a lot, others do a little - but people fought and died for the freedom for us to choose ourselves how best we remember and we encourage you to commemorate in your own way also, however you feel is best.

We've all got ancestors touched by conflict here and there is no disrespect intended."

So that's fine and dandy then???? :-|

Well said Shaun, thankyou.

Some time ago I started listing my relatives who died in WW!. I got as far as two foolscap pages, and had to stop because it was so sad. So many young men.

One in particular....

In Memory of
Corporal ROBERT BEVERIDGE MM
40707, 12th Bn., Royal Scots
who died age 24 on 20 September 1917

A total stranger saw Robert's medal in a shop, decided to find out more about him..... and made a mini-movie, managed to get Robert's name on the War Memorial (it's NOT automatic!), and arrange a memorial service in his home town.

Lest we Forget <3

I don't accept GR's reasons for no poppy on this site........... they are showing no respect.

GR have forgotten.

Well said Shaun.

Dermot, the other day I passed a poppy seller outside my local supermarket, I hoped he wouldn't catch my eye as my poppy was under my raincoat and I didn't want to have to prove I had one.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 10 Nov 2014 09:39

If they have been 'bought' they could have easily have fallen off, be on another garment or, like ours, sitting on the mantlepiece.

Wearing a poppy or donating to the BL is a personal choice.

Dermot

Dermot Report 10 Nov 2014 09:25

Very few I saw during the week wore a Poppy.

Sad!

Well put Shaun, I fully agree with everything you said, alas those responsible for this disgraceful omission - appear to be blind to how members feel :-|

Kath ...............

I bet they still maintian it needs a "technical release which takes time"

what the heck that means.

I do wish Phil Moir was still associated with GR, instead of elsewhere in BS ....................

he'd have sorted this out in no time at all!!

KathleenBell Report 9 Nov 2014 20:58

Well said Shaun.

I emailed support at GR yesterday to ask them to hurry up with a poppy - but that was before I had found this thread and realised that they had already said they couldn't (or wouldn't) be putting up a poppy because it would take too long and would need a "technical release".

My son suggested that any "computer hacker" would be able to add a poppy in no time at all. No excuse for GR not to be able to do the same - and it's still not the 11th yet so there IS still time!!

Thank you Shaun for posting. I totally agree with you and I too am disgusted by the attitude of GR.

Rambling Report 9 Nov 2014 20:30

I do agree Shaun.

I would also suggest it should not be for the 'front line' staff who are not the ones responsible for making such decisions to have to apologise on this, it should come from 'management' because that is where the buck stops.
