Well, Denis, what a comeback :-|

Yes, it is an individual's choice whether to wear a poppy or not, but you have seemed to have missed the point, if not the plot!

This is a site which many members actually pay to use. It also has a Military Board, where many members seek help.

To not put a poppy on here, whilst 'they' can on Facebook, the free site which, if you had read the threads, many of us are not members of, is an insult.

Most other sites of which I am a member of have actually managed it.

And to tell us to 'get used to it' beggars belief.

I am sorry to hear about the death of your great uncle at a very young age, but my great uncle also died early in the war, 7th November, 1914, at Ypres

As I said, to wear a poppy or not is an individual's choice, but to not display a poppy on a family history site when so many members have also lost relatives in all conflicts, is downright disrespectful

The poppy police seem to be out in force again this year. Wearing a poppy and respecting the war dead is a personal choice. I have made mine and have been wearing my poppy with pride. On 1 September I went to France for the sole purpose of laying a poppy wreath on the grave of my 17 year old great uncle exactly 100 years to the day of his death. My cholce. What other individuals or do or do not do is entirely up to to them. Get used to it.

Absolutely disgusting GR - as has been said "We will remember"

Today people from all walks of life, proudly wearing a Poppy, will gather around the Cenotaph in Whitehall, they will bow their heads in silence at 11:00am to remember all those members of the armed forces who fought in all wars - this solemn moment will be reflected throughout the country and in many other distant places - the sacrifice of the fallen and injured must never be forgotten <3

Today at 11:00am, I hope the senior management of GR, will bow their heads in shame for this unforgivable omission :-|

So have I, thought it smacked of going through the motions that's all. If they really had thought it out we'd have had more on the home page and at least 1 poppy would adorn it. Slip shod to say the least. There are still 2 more days until the 11th for you to reconsider putting up a poppy.

We will not forget because we remember GR.

Flipping hypocrits!!!!!

John McCrae was a doctor serving with the Canadian Armed Forces, he was so moved by what he saw he wrote this poem. The poem inspired the Legion Poppy Day, the first one being 11th November 1921

In Flanders' Fields by John McCrae 1915.

In Flanders' fields the poppies blow

Lest we forget

1968 is the only year since WW2 when no service person has died in a conflict.

They shall not grow old

Rememberance Sunday tomorrow. A little too late now for even a token poppy.

I'm with Island on this, as far as I'm concerned
It's a poor show at Christmas.

This however is an insult to those who gave their
lives for us...absolutely disgraceful GR.

I'm not bothered about baubles and snowflakes and rather hope they don't add them this year in light of their poor attitude regarding the missing poppy.

,,,,,,,Its not going to happen!!,the team know how throughly dissapointed us long standing members are at not having the usual poppy which has graced the site for many years and didnt often need a reminder.!

perhaps a gentle reminder now,,,,,, is to prepare them ,that its expected something will appear as per usual as always as happened a bauble or the ever popular :-D twinkling tree or the blob of snow will appear around the prep for christmas.

Rememberance Day is not observed in Spain, so poppies are not readily available.
A friend in England sends them to me.
I wear one every year & the Spanish are really interested in their significance & often say that they should observe the day as well.
GR can´t even be bothered to remember that Nov 11th is approaching.
NEXT YEAR WON¨T DO!!!!!!
Nor will an entry on facebook, which a large number of us don´t belong to.
We are PAYING members of GR & a little concern for our views would be much appreciated.

I sent a PM, and received a reply saying they did not mean to cause offence, and will be including the poppy in 'other communications' with GR members, whatever the h*** that may mean.

It simply doesn't wash - they are completely out of order

They're quick enough to put advertisements on - and take them off when they realise we, the paying members can't access parts of the site.

and this is the 100th anniversary of the start of WW1, servicemen all over the world are still being killed .........

all we wanted was ONE measly poppy on your own site.

Is he/she saying that they didn't have sufficient notice that November 11th. was coming up? They didn't realize that November comes after October and that this particular November 11th. is a very special one?
