I paid for a new electric cooker last Friday in cash from a local shop that ghas had ood feedback.
The managing director told me on Friday that it would be delivered to the shop on Monday and they would fit it Wednesday,

Wednesday came and went..I phoned around 4pm on Wednesday and they tpold me that the supplier hadn't put it on the van.

Told me it would definitley be in the shop on Thursday for fixing today(Friday) and I have had to phone them up to ask where the cooker and electrician are.

Told that the MD whi is going to fit it is proper poorly and they can't fit it now til Monday.

Well I asked for compensation for inconvenience and he told me no compensation and they would come and fit it Monday AM..

I lost my cool and told them I was going to Trading Standards as I can't cook on it.

He said they would just bring the cooker and not fit it which is what I paid for as well as removal of the old cooker as I was going to Trading Standards.

So what would you do??Let them fit the cooker on Monday and forget about Trading Standards.

The contract was for them to fit the cooker and take the old away.

well he is trying it on

Your contract is fitting and removal of the old one.

I would ring Trading standards anyway and ask for their advice .He doesn't need to know you have enquired about your rights.

he is just trying to frighten you as he knows he is in the wrong

If it is a local independent shop Sue and the only fitter is sick it is difficult to see what they can do. Maybe they think, if you have it delivered you could get someone else to fit it. They should then return the part of the payment that was for fitting. (Unless they advertise free fitting.). the fitting is a specialist job I think. :-)

mmm not easy as Monday will arrive before you get time to check your rights. I can appreciate your annoyance as I had to wait for a delivery. They should have phoned you mind to tell you that the fitter was ill. They did know in the morning.

If it´s in writing that they agreed to fitting then don´t let them fob you off now with just a delivery. I would let them come on Monday and do the job then ask again for compensation for your take out meals over the week. Like Shirley suggested you can always ring trading standards and check your rights before they arrive.

Sorry not a lot of help really :-S

No chance of getting anything from Trading Standards till after the weekend anyway, so if they turn up and exchange it Monday just call it quits
.
If they are only going to dump it on you Monday and leave you without a cooker refuse and contact Trading Standards I am assuming the fixing was part of the price and you were not to pay the fitter separately.

If they are a local shop and their fitter has let them down (which I doubt) they could at least find an alternative fitter to maintain customer service.

Standard Excuses list for tradesmen.
1 Van broken down.
2 Fitter sick.
3 Short handed because of holidays.
4 Fitters family, sick rush to hospital.
5 Parts not delivered.
6 Wrong parts.
7 Parts damaged.
8 Rang and left a message you didn't get.
9 Sorry you should not have got that slot we don't deliver there except Tues / Fri.
10 Computer error.

Well first of all I rang Trading Standards and I was told I have a case aaingst the local shop for Breach of Contract.

I just have to wait until Monday Morning to see if they turn up for a third appointment to fit the cooker.

They have at least 2 Electicians that can fit the cooker or any electrical item but the MD is sick and the other electrician cannot drive the new van as he said """I am not insured to drive the new van,Iam only insured to drive the old van.""

The Trading Standards guy said he would email me a copy of a letter that they give out to people to send this firm if they don't turn up on Monday.

So I will have to be patient and not lose my cool again.

Will let you all now what happens Monday...

we wait with baited breath

I am all in favour of not letting people pee you off after an initial contract that they amend because it suits them

The consumer act doesn't work that way

Many moons ago we ordered a new carpet with fitting for one of our bedrooms, we made a big allowance on the time scale because we wanted to repaint the room first

I paid upfront for the carpet and we did the refurb but we just couldnt get the carpet delivered and fitted.
After LOTS of excuses why the carpet didnt appear I said enough!!!! you told me a date so I paid upfront but you have my money earning interest whilst I dont have the money or carpet

I billed them for Interest they had on my money and it was accepted. good job at the time my office training and work experience on banking then was too much for them

We finally got the carpet fitted AND I got a refund cheque

Just to ley you all know the MD turned up with the cooker this morning(10-30AM)

it only took him 40 minutes to get the old one out and new in and wired up.

Showed me how it works and gave me the insruction book and believe it or not there is a handle with the grill.

Thanks for listening...

Glad you got the cooker delivered and installed at last.

My son and his fiancee ordered a cabin bed from Argos, they have been promised delivery four times over the last week and unless it arrived yesterday, little lad has been sleeping on his old mattress on the floor as they dismantled his small bed and passed it on to someone else.

Argos agreed to waive delivery charge and will be issuing some vouchers towards any further purchases.

Won't know till later if little fella slept in his new bed last night.
